Ocean County Tournament - Bracket

Quarterfinals

(2) Jackson Liberty 11, (7) Brick Memorial 10

Senior Charlie Rudderow hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the last of Jackson Liberty's four home runs and the Lions out-slugged the Mustangs to advance to the OCT semifinal Saturday against No. 14 seed Southern.

The two teams combined for seven home runs - all of which came in the first five innings. Sophomore Max Cala hit two as part of a five-hit, seven-RBI outburst, including a three-run shot in the first to open the scoring.

Jackson Liberty came back with four runs in the bottom of the first, beginning with a leadoff home run by senior Connor Keenan. Junior Brandon Kinsman tied the game with a two-run double and senior Alex Torres followed right behind him with an RBI double to give Jackson Liberty its first lead.

Brick Memorial swung right back with four runs in the top of the second. Senior Greg Hanlon tied the game with an RBI single and Cala knocked in his fourth run with an RBI single to put the Mustangs ahead, 5-4. Junior Lucas McLaughlin then belted a two-run home run to stretch the Brick Memorial lead to 7-4.

Senior Scott Wierciszewski pulled Jackson Liberty even again with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second - a three-run blast to tie the game at 7-7.

Winning pitcher Shane Hickey worked a scoreless third to quiet the Mustangs bats and senior catcher David Melfi gave Jackson Liberty the lead back with a two-run homer that made the score 9-7.

Brick Memorial got to Hickey in the third when Cala launched his second home run of the game - a three-run jack that catapulted the Mustangs back into the lead, 10-9.

Jackson Liberty pulled even in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by sophomore Dan Keenan. One inning later, Rudderow connected for the go-ahead homer and Hickey closed out the win with scoreless frames in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
