WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- The leading rusher in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2019 won’t have to travel far to get to work as former Monmouth standout Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) has signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets.

Guerriero, who starred at Lyndhurst High School, grew up five miles from MetLife Stadium which is home to the NFL’s New York Jets. In 2019 Guerriero led the FCS in rushing for the Hawks, finishing with 1,995 rushing yards and a Monmouth record 2,331 all-purpose yards. He had eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in nine of 14 games for the Blue & White, finishing third in the voting for the Walter Payton Award – bestowed upon the FCS’ best offensive player. Guerriero ran for over 200 yards in four contests over a six-game stretch late in the season. For his efforts he earned First Team Consensus All-American as a junior.

The former Big South Offensive Rookie of the Year finished his career with over 4,800 all-purpose yards and 239 points, He reached the endzone 39 times in 34 career games for Monmouth and had 20 career 100+ yard rushing games. In just three years he completed his collegiate career second all-time at Monmouth in rushing, third in scoring and is tied for the record in all-purpose yards with 306 which he recorded in a win over Hampton in 2019.

Guerriero is the second Hawk on the Jets team, with former Hawk Chris Hogan (2010) signing a one-year deal with the club on August 16, 2020.
