Lakewood senior Amir Tyler verbally committed to Temple University on Sunday.

Tyler, a 2015 Shore Sports Network first-team All-Shore selection at defensive back, was a dominant two-way player for a Lakewood team that won a share of of the Class B South division title, its first since 2000. The Piners finished 6-4 and qualified for the South Jersey Group III playoffs.

Tyler made 103 tackles, recorded four sacks and intercepted four passes as a defensive back. He also forced four fumbles, had two interception returns for touchdowns and returned a punt for a touchdown. As Lakewood's running back, Tyler ran for 1,064 yards and 20 touchdowns on an average of 8.9 yards per carry, and also had two receiving touchdowns. He was selected as the Class B South Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches.

Tyler also had offers from Army, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Stony Brook, Syracuse and Wagner. He will join former Lakewood teammate Chapelle Cook on the Owls roster, and is the fifth Piners player to commit to an FBS or FCS program in the last three season with Datrell Reed at Villanova, Tyrice Beverette at Stony Brook and Maurice Diawara at Wagner.
