If ever there was a day to buy a sub and more from Jersey Mike’s then tomorrow is it.  Not just because they make great sandwiches (which they do) but because Wednesday is their annual “Day of Giving” which involves all of their nearly 2,000 locations across the country and is the culmination of the company’s 11th Annual “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign.

All this month Jersey Mike’s has invited customers to make donations on site or through their app for each location’s charity partner which includes hospitals, food banks, youth organizations and more.  Then Wednesday local owners and operators will donate every dollar of sales to their charity partners of which there are more than 200 around the country. Since Month of Giving began in 2011, Jersey Mike’s has raised more than $32 million for local charities including Make-A-Wish New Jersey which once again is the charity partner of the Jersey Mike’s locations in our state including those in Monmouth and Ocean County.

Of course the Jersey Shore is where the franchise was born when then 17-year old Point Pleasant Beach High School senior Peter Cancro purchased Mike’s Subs which was located in neighboring Point Pleasant and where he had worked for a few years while in high school.  Cancro with the help of a local football coach/banker and friend borrowed the $125,000 needed to buy the sub store and things really took off more than a decade later when he began franchising.

While Jersey Mike’s is now a well-known national chain that continues to grow (more than 2,500 locations are open or under development) Cancro and many of his company executives have a special fondness for their home base with their headquarters in Manasquan.  From a personal standpoint, they have been a key partner in the growth of our Shore Sports Network and work with us to support and promote local high school sports which has always been a passion of theirs going back to when Cancro was a pretty good athlete at Point Beach.

Every single dollar of sales on Wednesday at the Jersey Mike’s locations here will go to Make-A-Wish New Jersey which helps grant wishes to local children with critical illnesses.  In 2019 more than $458,000 was raised which allowed the organization to grant nearly 50 wishes to children and the hope is that number can be exceeded this year. So when it’s time to think about lunch or dinner consider a sub, wrap, chips and more as 100% of all sales will go to helping make wishes come true. By the way I have several personal favorites but am going to give the Grilled Portabella Mushroom & Swiss Sub a shot.  Whatever you have it will taste great and you’ll feel good about helping Jersey Mike’s make a difference.
