Lucas Giolito and Wander Suero combined on a 3-hit shutout as Hgaerstown topped the BlueClaws 3-0 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park in the BlueClaws home opener.

The BlueClaws were held to just three doubles – Samuel Hiciano off Giolito and Carlos Tocci and Gabriel Lino off Suero – in the loss.

Lakewood (2-5) has now lost four games in a row after a 2-1 start and they fell to 2-12 all time in home openers. Hagerstown improved to 6-2 to start the season.

Giolito (1-0) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six. Suero pitched the last four innings, giving up two hits and fanning two.

BlueClaws starter Tyler Viza (0-2) retired the first seven hitters he faced, but in the third inning, Isaac Ballou’s RBI single put Hagerstown up 1-0. The Suns added four runs in the sixth – highlighted by a two-run double from Khayyan Norfork off of reliever Julio Reyes. Viza went five innings, plus the first four batters of the sixth, and allowed five runs, four earned.

Hagerstown’s Davis Masters, who entered the game 0-19, went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The series continues on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Alejandro Arteaga (1-0, 3.60) throws for Lakewood and LHP Hector Silvestre (0-0, 3.60) throws for Hagerstown.

After Friday’s game, there will be post-game fireworks, and all tickets are $1 thanks to the Asbury Park Press.
