Girls Soccer – Wall Sr. Kaitlyn Pettit Wins Postseason Player of the Week Award
Surf Taco Girls Soccer Postseason Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Pettit, Wall
There were players that scored more postseason goals and even more that scored more goals this season than Wall senior Kaitlyn Pettit, but you would be hard-pressed to find a player anywhere who made his or her goals count more than Pettit did. Of the three goals Pettit scored this season, two came in the NJSIAA Tournament and both proved to be the deciding goal in Wall wins.
Wall’s defense deserves a significant amount of credit for holding opponents to four goals during the entirety of its six-game run in the state tournament, but without Pettit’s timely scoring, the Crimson Knights might not have lasted that long. Pettit’s two postseason goals both came in 1-0 wins, with the senior heading in a goal in a sectional semifinal win at Manasquan and later knocking in the deciding goal in a 1-0 win over Seneca in the Group II semifinals.
Despite entering the NJSIAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed in the Central Jersey Group II section, Wall found its mojo at the right time and reached the state final round of the tournament for the fourth time in the last seven seasons.
Pettit ran away with the final Player of the Week award of the 2022 soccer season by attracting a whopping 75 percent of the votes cast, which eclipsed runner-up Baileigh Johnson of Point Pleasant Beach by more than 60 percent.
For winning the final Player of the Week award of the 2022 soccer season at the Shore, Pettit will receive a $25 gift card from Surf Taco.
