Sectional Finals

North Jersey 2, Group III

(5) Middletown South 1, (3) West Morris 1 (Midd. South advances on penalties, 3-1)

Gabby Cook saved two shots during the shootout and Keira Prince converted the winning kick on Middletown South's fifth round of kicks to deliver the Eagles (13-5-5) a penalty-kick win over the Wolfpack (13-8-2) and a sectional championship.

Madyson Laudisi made Middletown South's second attempt and after Dina Kousouris made the Eagles' third try, Cook came up with the second of her two saves to give her team the advantage. Ava Mamary then saved her second penalty kick of the round for West Morris, but Sarah Hoos fired the Wolfpack's next attempt off the crossbar to set up Prince for the winning shot.

Senior Grace Massell scored off a feed from Christina Sundt in the 27th minute to open the scoring before Emily DeGeyter answered for West Morris in the 30th.

Middletown South will play perennial power Northern Highlands in the Group III semifinals Tuesday at Livingston High School. Central Jersey Group III

(1) Allentown 2, (6) Toms River East 1

The Redbirds (20-1) answered Jillian Conklin's 34th goal of the season within 35 seconds and scored the winning goal less than four minutes after that to top the Raiders (13-5-1) and capture the program's first ever sectional title.

Conklin scored off a rebound of her own shot 12:14 into the match, but junior Emma Pascarella responded 35 seconds later with a 25-yard strike that sliced out of the leaping reach of Toms River East keeper Jackie Koegh and into the upper right corner of the goal.

Freshman Olivia Denney earned a penalty kick in the 17th minute by dribbling by a pair of defenders and getting tripped up. Fellow freshman Olivia Ricci ripped the ensuing kick to the lower left of the goal, just out of the reach of Keogh.

Keogh turned in a standout effort in goal in a losing effort, saving 10 shots, including three from point-blank distance and another with a leaping parry on another strike by Pascarella.
