Manchester (6-1) turned in a valiant performance against the 14th-ranked team in the country according to USA Today. The Hawks trailed, 14-12, after one quarter, but were outscored, 26-18, over the second and third periods.
Junior forward Destiny Adams had 10 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Kemari Reynolds finished with 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists for Manchester. Freshman guard Angelica Velez chipped in with nine points and four boards and senior guard Nahkaleigh Hayes-Jones hit two threes en route to scoring eight in the loss.
No. 3 St. John Vianney 40, Riverdale Baptist (Md.) 38
The Lady Lancers (6-0), who led by as much as 16 in the first half, staved off a late rally to upend Riverdale Baptist, ranked fourth in the nation according to USA Today.
Sophomore guard Madison St. Rose topped St. John Vianney with 17 points to complement eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Megan Cahalan cleared a season-high eight boards to go with six points and junior guard Katie Hill chipped in with six points and four rebounds in the win.
St. John Vianney set a decisive tone with a 16-3 burst to start the game. Riverdale Baptist rallied to have a last-second chance. However, the Lady Lancers defended a sideout inbounds, conceding an awkward drive and survived an errant putback attempt as time ran out.
