TINTON FALLS — The first event related to the 40th Annual Shore Football Coaches Foundation All-Shore Gridiron Classic all-star football game took place on Sunday when some of the top players in the Shore Conference were honored for their standout work in the classroom.

A luncheon at Fort Monmouth’s Gibbs Hall recognized players from the 2016 season who were selected to the Academic All-Shore team. Two players from each team who earned at least a 3.0 GPA and made significant contributions to their team’s success on the field were presented with plaques and along with their parents and head coach, were treated to lunch by the SFCF.

Guest speakers included Rutgers University running backs coach Lester Erb, The College of New Jersey head coach Rocky Hager and Monmouth University head coach Kevin Callahan. The event was presided over by Shore Sports Network director Kevin Williams.

The divisional coaches of the year for the 2016 season were also honored and are as follows: Freehold Township’s Cory Davies in Class A North; St. John Vianney’s Derek Sininsky in Class A Central; Central’s Justin Fumando, Brick’s Len Zdanowicz and Toms River North’s Dave Oizerowitz in Class A South; Wall’s Dan Curcione and Manasquan’s Jay Price in Class B North’ Keyport’s Jay Graham in Class B Central; Point Boro’s Matt Cilento and Pinelands’ Brian Wilkinson.

Among the All-Shore scholar athletes are Asbury Park’s Namir Argilagos, who excelled at the prestigious High Technology High School in Lincroft and will attend Notre Dame University on an academic scholarship, and Pinelands’ Glenn Brown, who will graduate as the school’s class of 2017 valedictorian.

The 2017 All-Shore Gridiron Classic will take place on Thursday, June 30 at Shore Regional High School’s Feeney Field. It will be the 40th edition of New Jersey’s longest running high school football all-star game. The rosters will be released in May and announced right here on Shore Sports Network.
