Savannah used a five-run seventh inning to pull away from the BlueClaws and the Sand Gnats topped the BlueClaws 10-3 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Every Savannah starter had a hit and six Sand Gnats had at least two hits as part of a 17-hit barrage in the win, which opened a five-game weekend series. Victor Cruzado homered and Stefan Sabol had a three-run double to key the five-run seventh, which made the score 9-2.

With the win, Savannah (12-6) improved to 3-1 on their eight-game trip, while the BlueClaws (5-14), who have lost six of seven, fall to 1-3 on their eight-game homestand.

Lakewood starter Drew Anderson (0-1) allowed four runs in five innings to take the loss in his season debut. Robert Whalen (3-0) allowed two runs in five innings to earn the win for the Mets affiliate.

A Patrick Biondi RBI single made it 1-0 Savannah in the third and they added three runs in the fourth inning off Anderson to open a 4-run lead on RBI singles by LJ Mazilli, Matt Oberste, and Jeff Glenn.

Shane Martin came on in the sixth inning for Lakewood but surrendered five runs in the seventh inning.

Wilmer Oberto had two hits and two RBIs including a solo home run in the 9th inning, his second home run of the season and of the homestand.

The teams will play a double-header on Friday  night, starting at 5:05 pm. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (0-2, 10.80) opposes RHP Robert Gsellman (1-2, 1.56) in game one. RHP Julio Reyes (0-0, 1.86) opposes RHP Miller Diaz (0-0, 3.38) in game two.
