Dominant Rushing Attack Leads Middletown South Past Rumson

RUMSON -- Junior running back Donovan Summey ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns to lead a potent ground attack and junior defensive back Jake Czwakiel intercepted two passes as Middletown South, ranked No. 5 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 opened a three-score lead and held on to defeat No. 7 Rumson-Fair Haven, 27-21, in a Shore Conference American Division game on Friday night at Borden Stadium.

Junior running back Colin Gallagher ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns and Czwakiel added 44 yards rushing from the quarterback position. Middletown South ran the ball 54 times for 304 yards. Summey's had touchdown runs of 4 and 25 yards and Gallagher scored on runs of 6 and 59 yards.

Gallagher made 10 tackles with one tackle for loss and one pass deflection at linebacker, Owen Richter made nine tackles, Brendan Sliva had three tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, and Madden Stanley had four tackles and one sack.

For Rumson, junior wide receiver Nick Rigby caught 10 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown and sophomore quarterback Owen O'Toole went 19 of 34 for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Rigby caught a 15-yard touchdown pass, sophomore wide receiver Nick Thomas had a 21-yard touchdown catch, and junior running back Alastair Orr ran for a 2-yard touchdown.
