Christmas Classic Coming Back
New Jersey’s premier holiday basketball tournament returns later this month with the 31st annual WOBM Christmas Classic to begin play during the weekend of December 20/21 at the Pine Belt Arena on the campus of Toms River High School North.
Once again 32 varsity teams will play 52 games over 7 days to decide the championship with the Manchester boys and Manasquan girls returning to defend the titles they won last December against a field that includes several new teams.
Boy’s first-time entrants are Manasquan, Marlboro and Middletown South while the group of girl’s teams includes Central, Colts Neck and Middletown South.
Tournament Founder & Director Kevin Williams announced that Barnabas Health’s Community Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus will return as presenting sponsors.
The hospital group’s sponsorship includes providing $4000 in college scholarships to eight student-athletes who participated in the 2013 tournament and are now college freshman. Michael Slusarz, Vice President for Marketing and Corporate Communications at Barnabas Health will make those presentations during the championship games on December 30.
All 16 Girls teams will play their first round games on Saturday, December 20 with the Boys first round games to be played the following day.
