Monmouth County Tournament
Championship
At Brookdale Community College
(1) Ranney 6, (2) Red Bank Catholic 5
Junior Ryan Costello scorched a single through the right side to chase senior A.J. Gracia home with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and the Panthers beat the Caseys in their final at-bat to cap an instant classic in the MCT championship game.
Ranney's victory marks the program's first ever Monmouth County Tournament championship in its first ever appearance, its 20th win of the season and its 14th consecutive victory overall.
Red Bank Catholic scored twice in the top of the seventh to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead for the Caseys. Senior Frank Scrivanic started the rally with a one-out double into right field, then senior catcher Shane Andrus launched a game-tying double to deep centerfield, chasing home pinch-runner A.J. Sciametta.
After sophomore Dylan Passo worked a walk, junior centerfielder Matt Brunner came through with a single into shallow right-center -- Brunner's third hit and second RBI of the game -- to plate courtesy runner Charlie Stumberger and give the Caseys a 5-4 lead with one out.
Gracia pitched around any further damage in the seventh and after senior Glen Cantalupo led off the seventh with a single through the middle, Gracia hammered a double that one-hopped the fence in left-center and scored Cantalupo with the tying run.
On the next pitch, Costello ripped a single into right field and despite a stop-sign at third base from head coach Pat Geroni, Gracia bolted around third and slid in head-first with the winning run.
Costello's game-winning hit was his second RBI knock of the game as well, with the first coming on a shot off the right-field fence that went for a two-run triple and gave the Panthers a 4-2 lead.
Each team posted two unearned runs against each starting pitcher in the first inning, with Passo mixing in an RBI single in RBC's half of the first. Ranney left-hander Marcello Mastroianni allowed just one earned run during his outing -- which included a run of four consecutive strikeouts during the entirety of the second inning and the first out of the second.
Alex Stanyek allowed only one run in his first 11 innings this season and after surrendering four in the first two on Wednesday -- two of which were earned -- he did not allow a hit and faced two batters more than the minimum during the next four innings.

Brick Memorial 11, Toms River East 2
After hitting the game-winning single in Tuesday's Ocean County Tournament win over Lacey, senior Joe Cordi belted a three-run triple to cap a six-run third inning, propelling the Mustangs to a win over the Raiders that keeps them in the hunt for a piece of the Class A South title while also extending their winning streak to eight.
Brick Memorial entered the top of the third trailing, 2-0, and got on the board on an RBI single by Brady Leach. A wild pitch tied the game and freshman Tyler Garbooshian pushed the Mustangs into the lead with an RBI single.
Dom D'Erasmo drove in two of his RBI with a two-run single in the top of the fifth to stretch the Brick Memorial lead to 8-2.
