Manchester 7, Point Boro 6
Sophomore Anthony Carino scored the first run and drove in the final run of a six-run rally in the top of the seventh that proved to be the difference for the Hawks in a win over the Panthers -- their third straight win since tying their opening-day game at Jackson Liberty.
Carino reached on an error to start the rally and drove in what proved to be the winning run with an RBI single. Seniors A.J. Ramirez and Joe Sclama delivered RBI singles to cut the deficit to 4-3 and Manchester tied the game on a fly-ball error on a ball hit by senior Joe Inkrote.
Junior Joe Bentivenga gave Manchester the lead with a sacrifice fly and the Hawks went up, 6-4, on an RBI single by senior Luke Walters.
Point Boro cut Manchester's lead to 7-6 on a wild pitch and an error and had the bases loaded with one out. The Hawks then brought senior Frank Kern in to pitch and the right-hander struck out two straight to close out the win with the potential tying and winning runs for Point Boro stranded in scoring position.
