NJSIAA Tournament

First Round

South Jersey Non-Public A

(5) CBA 7, (12) Camden Catholic 0

Right-hander Brennan O'Keefe fired a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts and three walks on 89 pitches and the Colts backed him with a five-run third inning in a first-round win over the Irish.

James Nitti staked CBA to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single to score Harrison Campi. In the third, Wyatt Hunt made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly and the Colts extended the lead to 4-0 with consecutive RBI singles by Will Fahey and Matt DiFeo. A pair of wild pitches plated the last two runs of the CBA rally in the third.

Hunter Del Guercio tacked on a seventh run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

CBA advances to Friday's sectional quarterfinal round and will make a return trip to St. Augustine in a rematch of last year's South Non-Public A championship game. The fourth-seeded Hermits are the six-time defending sectional champions and defeated CBA last season, 5-2.

Non-Conference

Bergen Catholic 5, Red Bank Catholic 2

Shane Andrus stayed hot with a 2-for-3 game and two RBI at the plate, but the Crusaders (22-4) topped the Caseys (21-5) in a dress rehearsal for a potential Non-Public A championship game.

Red Bank Catholic is the No. 1 seed in the South Jersey Non-Public A section, while Bergen Catholic is No. 1 in the North. The champions of the two sections meet in the state final on June 8 at Veterans Park in Hamilton.

Ryan Prior pitched two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts -- the only one of the four RBC pitchers Tuesday to toss a scoreless outing. Dom Mallamaci also pitched two innings in taking the loss, while Anthony Nannini and Steve Svenson each allowed a run in one inning with 23 pitches.

Sean Griggs also reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a walk and hit-by-pitch.
