Ocean County Tournament

Semifinals

(2) Donovan Catholic 14, (3) Brick Memorial 4 (5 Innings)

Junior Tyler Levine hit a two-run double in a 10-run Donovan Catholic first inning and later added a two-run single in a five-RBI game as the Griffins routed the Mustangs, extending their winning streak to 13 and clinching a spot in the OCT championship game for the first time in program history.

Levine's two-run double opened the scoring and junior catcher Hunter Johnson ripped a two-run single with two out to make it 4-0. Junior shortstop Joe Maier made it 6-0 with a two-run single of his own and the final four runs of the inning scored on an errant pickoff attempt and three straight bases-loaded walks. Donovan Catholic drew seven walks against two different Brick Memorial pitchers in the first inning.

Fifth-year senior Shaun O'Keefe pitched two scoreless innings on 18 pitches before getting the hook, which allows him to pitch again as early as tomorrow's Shore Conference Tournament game vs. Manasquan. If Donovan Catholic wins that game, the Griffins will play Monday in the SCT quarterfinals and Tuesday in the OCT final.

Brick Memorial cut into the lead in the fourth inning with four consecutive RBI singles by freshman Tyler Garbooshian, junior Devante Noriega, senior Joe Cordi and junior Jimi Popp.

Donovan Catholic got its offense back in gear in the bottom of the fourth, with senior Rocco Scarpitti following a two-run single by Levine with an RBI single off the top of the fence in left-centerfield.

(4) Southern 6, (1) Jackson Memorial 3 (8 Innings)

Senior Niko Diamantopoulos hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the top of the eighth inning after Jackson Memorial tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and the Rams upended the top-seeded Jaguars to advance to the OCT final for just the fourth time in program history and first time since 2017.

Jackson Memorial senior Charlie Meglio connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2, giving Meglio a Shore-Conference-leading nine for the season.

Southern senior Dom Miranda responded with a solo blast in the top of the sixth to give Southern the lead back, 3-2.

Jackson Memorial tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out sacrifice fly by senior Mike Arent after Southern opted to intentionally walk Meglio to load the bases.

Miranda opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the fourth and junior Ray Mulhern tacked on another run with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Meglio lifted a two-strike pitch toward the opposite field in right and it carried over the fence for the tying homer.

Junior Roger Dreher earned the win in relief of Brady Lesiak and also tacked on an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI single that made it 6-3.

Southern will take on Donovan Catholic Tuesday in the Ocean County Tournament championship game Tuesday, 4 p.m. at Central Regional High School's Al Leiter Ballpark.
