SSN Week 1 Boys Soccer Player of the Week

Brendan Worobel, Holmdel

Holmdel has lost a slew of scoring to graduation over the past several seasons but through three games this year, the Hornets once again have the conference’s top scorer.

Worobel was starting to find his footing as a junior last year when an injury derailed his season and now as a senior, he has been dominant up top. He kicked off his senior campaign by scoring four times in a 5-1 win over a solid Monmouth roster, then scored the golden goal in a 1-0 overtime win at Middletown North to catapult Holmdel to another hot start.

Holmdel's fast start slowed down with a 2-1 loss to Rumson-Fair Haven Tuesday, but the Bulldogs could not keep Worobel quiet despite the victory. Worobel scored the lone Holmdel goal in the 66th minute to put the pressure on the Bulldogs, but Holmdel could not convert the equalizer.

Worobel captured the Week 1 award with 27 percent of the 1,200-plus votes cast, with Point Pleasant Boro junior Alex Baginski running second at 20 percent.
