At the end of each week, eight Shore Conference soccer players will be nominated for the Player of the Week Online Award. Senior Editor Matt Manley will select a Player of the Week from each of the six Shore Conference divisions and two wild cards that can come from any of the divisions. The Shore Sports Network readers will then have two days to vote for their choice for Player of the Week, with the winner announced at the completion of the voting period.

Class A North Player of the Week

Abel Herrera, Freehold Boro

Herrera scored one goal in each of Freehold Boro’s three games last week, matching teammate Issac Ball for goal total during the same stretch. Frehold Boro defeated Neptune, lost to Manalapan and torched Ocean, 5-1, to finish off the week. Herrera scored the first goal in the win over Ocean and also assisted a goal in the win.

Class A Central Player of the Week

Owen Greengrove, Rumson-Fair Haven

It was another week of standout individual performance in Class A South, and while Greengrove did not outscore Holmdel’s Anthony Arena (five goals this week), he did scored three and assist one in a 1-0 win over Matawan. Greengrove scored in a 2-0 win over St. John Vianney and put in two in a 5-1 win over St. Rose.

Class A South Player of the Week

Nick Kinzler, Jackson Memorial

The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season against Southern this week and the goal they allowed in that game was the only one the defense and Kinzler gave up all week. Kinzler pitched shutouts against Toms River South and Toms River North while allowing just one in a 1-0 loss to Southern. All three opponents were ranked top open the season and now it’s the No. 4 Jaguars who sit atop Class A South.

Class B North Player of the Week

Venancio Fernandes, Long Branch

This was a breakout scoring week for Vernandes, who did not record a goal or assist in the first two games of the season. He opened the week with two assists in an 8-1 win over Red Bank Catholic, then scored two goals each in wins over Middletown North and Shore. Fernandes also added an assist in the impressive 4-0 win over Middletown North, which entered the game 3-0 and beat Manalapan two days later.

Class B Central Player of the Week

Davensky JoinVilmar, Asbury Park

JoinVilmar was a one-man wrecking crew in a 4-2 win over St. Rose on Wednesday, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes and adding the game-winning midway through the second half to complete his second hat trick of the season. JoinVilmar also scored the golden goal two days earlier to help the Blue Bishops survive an overtime scare at Mater Dei.

Class B South Player of the Week

Ricky Norman, Barnegat

Barnegat is starting to make noise in B South this season and Norman has been in the middle of the surge. He scored two goals in a loss to Lakewood, put up two goals and two assists in a 6-1 win over Donovan Catholic and added a 75th-minute game-winner in a 2-1 win over Jackson Liberty on Friday.

Wild Cards

Joel Burgos, Monmouth

Burgos is off to a colossal start to the season, scoring a Shore-Conference-leading 13 goals in Monmouth’s first six games. Last week, Burgos scored two goals in a 4-2 loss to Ocean, one in a loss to Raritan, and tallied the game-winner in the 77th minute to deliver Monmouth a huge 2-1 win over Wall on Thursday.

Japhet Compollo, Lakewood

The Piners let an impact result slip away by conceding two goals in the final 12 minutes of a 3-1 loss to Lacey on Wednesday, but came up with a pair of big wins on either end of the loss. Compollo helped lead the charge with two goals in a 4-2 win over Barnegat last Monday and turned in another strong all-around performance in a 1-0 win over defending Class B South champion Point Boro.
