Neptune 3, No. 3 Freehold Twp. 0

Junior Mickenna Church converted a first-half penalty kick and classmate Wilby Alfred scored in the 72nd minute to put the game away and give the Scarlet Fliers (2-2, 1-2) a big A North win over the Patriots (2-2, 2-1).

Neptune also added one more insurance tally on an own goal in the final minutes. Junior Seamus McAnee saved 12 shots to earn the shutout for Neptune.

No. 7 Manalapan 3, Freehold Boro 2

Junior Justin Goldberg celebrated his 17th birthday by scoring the game-winning goal in the 79th minute to cap a comeback win for the Braves (1-0-2, 1-0-2) against the Colonials (2-3, 2-2).

Mark Tucillo started the winning sequence by beating two defenders on the right side and sliding the ball across to Goldberg. After missing the first shot he took, Goldberg pounced on the rebound and finished from the left side of the six-yard box.

Manalapan trailed Freehold Boro 2-0 at halftime before senior Quentin Pickering scored four minutes into the second half off a diagonal ball from junior D'Angelo Reyes. Senior Gavin LeBright tied the game at 2-2 in the 62nd off a feed from Goldberg.

Abel Herrera opened the scoring for Freehold Boro in the 25th minute and Jake Brower followed with a goal in the 32nd to stake the Colonials to a 2-0 advantage.

Howell 2, Marlboro 0

Dylan Dougher and Robert Saunders each scored second-half goals and the Rebels (1-2-1, 1-2-1) topped the Mustangs (0-3-1, 0-2-1) for their first win of the season. Howell opened by playing three teams ranked in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 - No. 5 CBA, No. 3 Freehold Township and No. 7 Manalapan.

No. 5 CBA 1, Colts Neck 0

Senior John Askin headed in the game-winning goal on a cross from junior Joe Lozowski with 37 seconds left in regulation and the Colts (5-0, 4-0) edged the Cougars (1-3, 1-3) to win their fifth straight to open the season.

 

Class A Central

No. 1 Holmdel 6, Shore 1

Junior Anthony Arena recorded his third hat trick of the season and the Hornets (5-0, 4-0) coasted past the Blue Devils (1-3-1, 0-2-1) for their fifth straight win to open the year. Arena also assisted a goal by Matt Leon.

Senior Justin McStay assisted two of Arena's goals and also set up another one by senior Cyrus Darvish. Leon added an assist as well, finding senior Joe Arena for the finish.

Junior Leonardo Montesinos broke up the shutout with a penalty kick for Shore.

Red Bank 2, St. John Vianney 0

Sophomore Erik Christie scored on a pass from classmate Tor Haugenes and senior Ryan Lefever added a second Red Bank goal on a pass from senior Raul Rodriguez to lead the Bucs (1-3, 1-1) past the Lancers (0-2-1, 0-2-1) for coach Vinny Gruosso's first career win as a head coach.

Rumson-Fair Haven 1, Matawan 0

Senior Dan Cragg scored off an Owen Greengrove corner kick in the 60th minute and the Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) held off the Huskies (1-3, 1-3) to remain unbeaten.

 

Class B North

No. 6 Long Branch 4, Middletown North 0

Senior Venancio Fernandes scored two goals and assisted another by junior Stiviny DaSilva to lead the Green Wave (3-1, 2-1) to a convincing win over the previously-unbeaten Lions (3-1, 2-1).

Senior Renan Azevedo also notched a goal and an assist, scoring on a penalty kick in the ninth minute and finding Fernandes in the 33rd for the first of his two goals.

Middletown South 1, Red Bank Catholic 0

Jonathan Santos scored the game's lone goal in the second half and the Eagles (3-1, 2-1) won for the third time in four games to open the season by nipping the Caseys (0-3, 0-3).

No. 4 Ocean 1, Manasquan 0

Senior Steve Carton scored the game's lone goal early in the second half and the Spartans (3-0, 3-0) topped the Warriors (1-2, 1-2).

Senior Max Winters earned the shutout and helped preserve it with a big save on a shot by freshman Tommy Johnson inside the six-yard box in the 77th minute. Manasquan junior Matt Drake also ripped a shot off the crossbar during Manasquan's push to equalize.

Monmouth 2, Wall 1

Patrick Riordan and Joel Burgos scored one minute apart in the final five minutes and the Falcons (3-2, 1-2) held on to score a big B North comeback win over the Crimson Knights (2-2, 1-2).

Wall took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal by Nick Surgent and held it until Riordan's equalizer in the 76th. Burgos then notched the winner in the 77th, his 12th goal of the young season.

 

Non-Division

Raritan 8, Keyport 0

Jake Fortune, Nick Bavarro and Mike Petsch each scored two goals and the Rockets (1-1-1) rolled to a win over the Red Raiders (0-5). Bavarro also added an assist, Tommy Savin contributed a goal and two assists, Chris Fontanazza dished out two assists and Ryan Goggins chipped in a goal and an assist for Raritan.
