Returning 2021 Shore Sports Network All-Shore Players

First Team

Alec Pentikis, Sr., Forward, Rumson-Fair Haven

2021 Stats: 16 goals, 4 assists

All of the players named to the 2021 Shore Sports Network All-Shore First Team were seniors except for one. Pentikis was the exception, racking up 16 goals and helping lead the Bulldogs to their first ever NJSIAA sectional championship. The 16 goals are tied for the third-highest total among players returning in 2022, trailing two players who made also made it onto the 2021 All-Shore list.

Second Team

Will Thygeson, Sr., Forward, CBA

2021 Stats: 5 goals, 9 assists

Shore Sports Network 2021 Player of the Year Dylan Cupo to the bulk of CBA’s scoring last season, but Thygeson scored his goals when the stakes were at their highest. He scored two goals in the Shore Conference Tournament championship final vs. Toms River North, then scored one each in NJSIAA Tournament wins over Union Catholic and Notre Dame.

Owen Edwards, Sr., Midfield/Forward, Manchester

2021 Stats: 20 goals, 14 assists

Of all the players returning for the 2022 season, Edwards scored the most goals by piling up 20 tallies during his All-Shore junior campaign. Edwards has been at the center of Manchester’s soccer resurgence, starting with a breakout freshman season in helping the Hawks finish second in Class B South in 2020, then posting an All-Shore season as Manchester won an unofficial NJSIAA sectional title in 2021. The Hawks are looking for a bounceback season after a disappointing 10-12 campaign a year ago and with Edwards leading an experienced roster, Manchester is well set up to do so.

Third Team

Ernst Louisius, Sr., Forward, Neptune

2021 Stats: 17 goals, 9 assists

With Louisius leading the attack, Neptune had a season to remember in 2021, capturing a share of the Class B North division title for the first time since 2002. The Scarlet Fliers won their first five division games to close out the division co-title, with Louisius notching four goals and six assists during the winning streak. He also scored in each of the two division losses to Wall and Colts Neck, then put up three goals and two assists in two NJSIAA Tournament games.

Kajus Matazinskas, Sr., Forward, Toms River East

2021 Stats: 14 goals, 7 assists

With Toms River North running away with the Class A South championship, Toms River East grabbed the second spot in the division with Matazinskas leading the scoring effort. Now, Matazinskas returns hoping to lead the Raiders to a division title, which has eluded them over the last decade. With his imposing size and advanced skill, Matazinskas is a serious candidate to lead the Shore in scoring.

C.J. Crolius, Sr., Defense, Middletown North

From the time he stepped on the field during his freshman season, Crolius established himself as one of the Shore’s best pure defenders. He was a master marker early on in his career and has since become of leader in the back to go with his lockdown defensive abilities. While CBA remains a heavy favorite to run Class A North, the Lions has an experienced group back – particularly its defensive core – that has designs on winning the A North public title.

Matteo Paolillo, Jr., Goalkeeper, Manalapan

Life as a sophomore goalkeeper in last year’s Class A North was not easy, with Manalapan dealing with CBA, Freehold Township, Howell and Marlboro attacks. Paolillo more than held his own, which included two shutout performances vs. Marlboro and a 1-0 loss to CBA in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. After giving up four goals on opening day vs. Freehold Township, Paolillo allowed only 13 goals in 17 games the rest of the way and posted nine shutouts.

All-Shore Final Vote Winners

Billy Caruso, Sr., Forward, Brick Memorial

2021 Stats: 8 goals, 3 assists

Caruso was the top scorer on a Brick Memorial side that reached the Shore Conference Tournament for the first time since 2017. Caruso scored three of Brick Memorial’s four goals in huge wins over Toms River East and Toms River South, which included a two-goal performance in a 2-1 win over Toms River East.

R.J. Eckelman, Sr., Forward, Howell

2021 Stats: 6 goals, 12 assists

Eckelman was one of the Shore’s top assist men in 2021 thanks, in large part, to his proficiency serving corner kicks and set pieces. He also showed a nose for goal-scoring and even as he makes a likely shift to the center of the defense, he will retain an ability to create goals for what should be another competitive Rebels team.
