Boys Soccer – Point Beach Senior Collin Hutton Wins Week 4 Player of the Week Award
Week 4 Surf Taco Player of the Week
Collin Hutton, Point Beach
Barnegat entered Thursday’s game against Point Beach needing a win to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament and the Garnet Gulls broke the Bengals’ hearts. Point Beach pulled out a 1-0 victory over Barnegat, and it was Hutton who delivered the deciding blow with his goal in the first half.
Hutton's game-winner came in the 37th minute of Point Beach's Oct. 6 win over the Bengals, when he finished a cross from junior teammate Ronan Lynch. The Garnet Gulls went on to finish off the shutout and seal their first win of the season over a team outside of the Shore Conference Class B Central division.
During his senior season to date, Hutton has scored two goals and both have been important ones in relation to the scoreboard and both have come in games played outside of the Class B Central division. The other goal was an equalizer that tied the score, 3-3, midway through the second half against Monmouth Regional -- a game Point Beach would go on to drop, 4-3.
Hutton won this week's Player of the Week award with 32 percent of the vote, beating out runner-up Nick Damiano of Wall, who drew 28 percent. Howell senior Nick Spisak (17 percent) and Toms River East senior Kajus Matazinskas (12 percent) were the other two nominees to collect better than 10 percent of the vote in this week's contest.
For winning the latest Player of the Week award, Hutton will receive a $25 gift card from Surf Taco.
