NRS Shore Sports Network Player of the Week

Nico Garcia, Toms River North

Toms River North appears to be hitting its stride at the right time and Garcia and the sophomores have had a significant hand in that. He scored two goals in a 7-0 rout of Brick to start the week, then delivered an assist and the game-winning goal in a big 2-1 win over Toms River South on Thursday. Garcia is the second-leading scorer on the Mariners with seven goals following his three-goal week.

A South Honorable Mention: Dustin Urbaczek, Toms River South; Mike Schoener, Jackson Memorial; Mitch Reed, Toms River North; Logan Romero, Toms River East

Class A North Player of the Week

Wilby Alfred, Neptune

The Scarlet Fliers won just one game this week, but Alfred scored four times in Neptune’s last two games – one of which was against CBA. The sophomore striker put two in the net against the Colts and scored two more in a 3-0 win over Point Beach on Saturday. Neptune has taking a beating in its first year in A North, but showed in that Point Beach win that they are better than their record.

A North Honorable Mention: Zack Ferchak, Colts Neck; Adrian Barajas, Freehold Twp.; Adam Brodsky, Manalapan; P.J. Ringel, Marlboro

Class A Central Player of the Week

Dante Montesinos, Shore

Although Shore went 1-2 this week, Montesinos had one of his more active weeks of the season, contributing to all five of his team’s goals during the week. He scored two goals in the one win over St. John Vianney, assisted both goals in a loss to Monroe and assisted the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Raritan.

A Central Honorable Mention: Leo Nobrega, Holmdel; Jake Fortune, Raritan; Anthony Arena, Holmdel

Class B North Player of the Week

Justin McKenna, Middletown North

The Lions are another team raising their game as the postseason approaches and McKenna kicked off the week in grand fashion. He recorded a hat trick in a win over Red Bank Catholic and scored two goals to break a 1-1 tie in a 3-1 win over Middletown South.

B North Honorable Mention: Jeremy Thompson, Wall; Jordan Stratton, Middletown North; Venancio Fernandes, Long Branch; Dan Frisch-Harmon, Wall; Ryan Flanagan, Manasquan

Class B Central Player of the Week

Jonathan Desulme, Asbury Park

Davensky JoinVilmar gets most of the buzz in discussions about Asbury Park, but the Blue Bishops have been a team with a lot of heroes over the course of the season. Desulme was the man for Asbury this week, scoring a goal with two assists in a 4-2 win over Point Beach and adding another goal in a 5-1 win over Henry Hudson.

B Central Honorable Mention: Ki Costa, Point Beach; Mat Carrigy, Mater Dei; Jason Gonzalez, Henry Hudson

Class B South Player of the Week

Matt O’Connell, Pinelands

For the third time this year, O’Connell is the B South Player of the Week and how can anyone argue? The senior had another monster week, scoring two goals in a win over Jackson Liberty, four in a blowout win over Barnegat and two more in a win over Lacey – giving him an eight-goal week in just three games. O’Connell already has 28 goals on the season after yet another big week.

B South Honorable Mention: Anthony Calixto, Lakewood; Jordan Humphreys, Pinelands; Chris Bragen, Point Boro; Matt Kimak, Point Boro; Matt Dalton, Donovan Catholic
