No. 3 Marlboro 1, Manalapan 0

Senior Brett Easton ran onto a through ball from Josh Grun and chipped in the game's lone goal in the 47th minute to help lift the Mustangs to a win over the Braves in the season-opener for both teams.

Marlboro's defense cleared the ball off of its own goal line twice in the final 15 minutes to preserve the lead and the shutout for senior goalkeeper Josh Weinberg.

 

Class B North

No. 8 Ocean 5, Long Branch 1

Sophomore Erick Vasquez scored two of Ocean's five first-half goals and the Spartans cruised to a season-opening win over the Green Wave.

Sophomore Santieno Harding and senior Cosimo Franze each tallied a goal and assisted on one of Vasquez's goals. Vasquez vollied a diagonal cross from Franze out of the air and into the net for Ocean's third goal in the 17th minute.

Sophomore James Schutz converted a free kick in the 12th minute to make it 2-0. Junior Frank Astudillo assisted the final two Ocean goals, setting up a Harding header in the 30th and sliding a pass over to Franze, who scored to the far left post in the 33rd.

Senior Joao Pessoa scored the lone Long Branch goal in the 75th.

Middletown South 0, No. 6 Wall 0

Defense won the day as Middletown South senior Ryan Nacelerio and Wall senior Nolan Cloney each picked up shutouts in a draw between the Eagles and the Crimson Knights. Nacelerio turned in a standout effort to help Middletown South overcome a 15-4 shot disparity in favor of Wall.

Senior Ethan Kelley scored the golden goal in the final three minutes of the second overtime period on an assist from senior Tom Colantino and the Admirals (1-1) edged Perth Amboy Tech to give head coach Matt Mancini his first win.
