Class A North

No. 3 CBA 8, Middletown North 0

Senior John Frycz, junior Aaron Robertson and junior Tom Judge each scored two goals and the Colts (1-0, 1-0) overwhelmed the Lions (0-1, 0-1) in their season opener. Senior Nick Meyer and junior Patrick Kollman each scored a goal and junior Matt Thorsheim chipped in three assists. Senior Dean Canale also assisted the two goals by Judge.

No. 4 Manalapan 1, Howell 0

Sophomore Quentin Pickering scored the game's lone goal in the 37th minute off a pass from Pio Schiano-Lamoriello to help the Braves (1-0, 1-0) open their season with a win over the Rebels (0-1, 0-1). Senior Ryan Cadotte saved six shots to earn the shutout in his first varsity start in goal.

No. 1 Freehold Twp. 1, Marlboro 0

Senior Chris Hoskins headed in a set piece by senior Mike Maltese in the 21st minute and the Patriots (1-0-1, 1-0-0) made the goal stand up in a win over the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1). Senior Mike Christina earned the shutout for Freehold Township.

 

Class A Central

Rumson-Fair Haven 2, Manasquan 1

Senior Jamie Martin and junior Sam Sapnar scored goals four minutes apart in the first half and the Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0) held on to beat the Warriors (1-2, 0-1). Martin scored off a pass from senior Matt Maisto in the 16th and Sapnar converted a pass from sophomore Jeremy Nives in the 20th.

Senior Thomas McGill scored in the 28th minute on a pass from senior Tolga Guven to cut the Rumson lead in half.

 

Class A South

No. 6 Jackson Memorial 1, Toms River East 1

Toms River East junior Chandler Gibbons and Jackson Memorial junior Mike Schoener traded goals and the Raiders (0-0-2, 0-0-1) earned a draw against the Jaguars (1-1-1, 0-0-1).

Brick Memorial 3, Southern 0

Senior Alejandro Cisneros, sophomore James McCombs and junior Shawn Behrend each scored a goal and the Mustangs (1-1, 1-0) blanked the Rams (0-1, 0-1) in their A South opener.

 

Class B Central

Keyport at Henry Hudson - PPD, TBD

St. Rose 3, Mater Dei Prep 0

The Purple Roses (1-0, 1-0) benefitted from three owned goals and went on the blank the Seraphs (0-1, 0-1) in their season opener. Senior Connor Cusack, junior Matty O'Malley and freshman Matt Forlenza all struck a ball off a defender and in to account for the St. Rose scoring.

Ranney 3, Asbury Park 1

Freshman AO Odunlami scored his second goal in as many games and the Panthers (2-0, 1-0) won their second straight game to open the season by beating the Blue Bishops (0-2, 0-1). Junior Asher Kraut also scored in the Ranney win.

No. 5 Shore 3, Point Beach 2

Senior J.T. Kessler recorded a hat trick in the first 16 minutes and the Blue Devils (2-0, 1-0) held off a second-half surge from the Garnet Gulls (0-2, 0-1) to pick up a win in the B Central opener for both teams.

Kessler took the ball at the edge of the six-yard box on the right side and ripped a shot to the far side netting to open the scoring in the seventh. He then scored his fourth and fifth goals of the young season 21 seconds apart in the 16th minute. Kessler tapped in a through-ball from freshman Leonardo Montesinos to make it 2-0 and volleyed a rebound into the goal just seconds later.

Sophomore Aris Papoutsakis scored on a counter-attack in the 50th minute and freshman Ki Costa ripped a shot to the upper part of the net from 20 yards out in the 62nd to pull Point Beach within a goal.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 1, Central 0

Junior Matt O'Connell scored with 54 seconds left and the Wildcats (1-1, 1-0) beat the Golden Eagles (0-1-1, 0-1-0) in thrilling fashion in the B South opener for both teams. Denilson Salgado won the ball near the corner of the 18-yard box and slid a pass to O'Connell, who took a touch and ripped a high shot into the goal from six yards out.

Senior Dave Lunn saved eight shots to pick up the shutout in goal.

Jackson Liberty 7, Lakewood 0

Senior Brandon Pirog scored two goals to lead a scoring barrage that paced the Lions (1-0-1, 1-0-1) to a comfortable win over the Piners (0-2, 0-1). Sebastian Navarro, Trevor Anderson, Evan Salaj, Kevin Garry and Alex Iorio each added a goal in the win.
