Boys Soccer – Freehold Boro’s Ammar Danish Wins Week 5 Player of the Week Award
Week 5 Surf Taco Player of the Week
Ammar Danish, Freehold Boro
Freehold Boro is not in the Shore Conference Tournament, but the Colonials are enjoying their own version of postseason success with Danish leading the way. Freehold Boro has now won five of its last six games and with Tuesday’s win over Red Bank, the Colonials reached the finals of the Shore Conference Coaches’ Cup – a tournament for teams that did not qualify for the SCT.
Last week, Danish led the way in two Freehold Boro wins, one of which was part of the SCCC run. The junior scored two of his team’s three goals in a 3-0 win over Barnegat in the SCCC, then followed it up with the lone goal in a 1-0 win over a Matawan team that did qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament.
During the current week, Danish again turned in a big effort in a tournament win, posting a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Red Bank that sent Freehold Boro into Monday's Coaches' Cup final against Shore Regional. The Colonials also picked up a regular-season win over Lacey, which they won by erasing a 1-0 halftime deficit and winning in overtime, 2-1.
This week's Player of the Week contest was a two-man race between Danish and Toms River South junior Kenny Caruso, who collected 31 percent of the vote against the 35 that Danish drew. Marlboro junior Cade Jacobs was the only other nominee this week to earn at least 10 percent of the vote.
For winning the latest Player of the Week award, Danish will receive a $25 gift card from Surf Taco.
