NJSIAA Tournament - Public Sectional Quarterfinals, Non-Public First Round
South Group 4 - Quarterfinals
1-Southern 13, 8-Old Bridge 2
Senior attackman Ryan Sininsky totaled three goals and four assists and senior attackman Jack Kolbe tallied three goals and one assist as the defending-champion Rams rolled over the Knights to advance to the semifinals.
Southern will host Howell on Wednesday.
Senior midfielder Jake Washco had two goals and two assists while senior midfielder Zach Washco and junior midfielder Joey DeYoung had two goals and one assist each. Junior attackman Hayden Lucas scored once, sophomore attackman Konnor Forlai had two assists, and senior FOGO Kurt Falk won 8 of 13 face-offs.
Senior goalie Tyler Sininsky (8 saves) and sophomore goalie Nick Roesch (3 saves) shared time in goal.
5-Howell 8, 4-Cherokee 7
Junior attackman Nate Lorenzo leaped and scored off a pass from senior midfielder Tyler Burns with three seconds left in regulation to give the Rebels a sensational victory over the Chiefs to advance to the South Group 4 semifinals.
Howell will play top-seeded Southern on Wednesday in the semifinals.
Neither team led by more than one goal during the game. Howell went ahead 7-6 on a goal by Tyler burns with 4:40 left but Nate Bialy answered for Cherokee with 3:19 to pay. Cherokee was able to gain possession of a Howell turnover with 1:56 on the clock but an errant pass by the Chiefs gave Howell the ball back with 1:42. The Rebels held for the finally shot and Burns was able to dodge and find a wide-open Lorenzo on the crease, who jumped to catch the pass before dunking it in behind Cherokee's goalie.
Lorenzo and senior midfielder Doug MacKenzie each scored twice while Tyler Burns had a goal and two assists and senior attackman Vin Burns had a goal and an assist. Senior middies Chris Calafiore and Dax Kukan each scored once and senior FOGO Glenn Giordano won 9 of 18 at the face-off X.
Senior goalie Colin Fay made 12 saves to backstop a tremendous defensive effort that kept Howell close when Cherokee had a major possession advantage in the second and third quarters.
South Group 2 - Quarterfinals
3-Wall 15, 6-Holmdel 6
Junior attackman John McCurry erupted for seven goals and one assist as the Crimson Knights surged past the Hornets in the second half to reach the semifinals.
Wall lead 5-1 after the first quarter but Holmdel clawed back with several man-up goals in the second quarter to trim Wall's lead to 7-5 at halftime. The Crimson Knights led 10-6 going into the fourth quarter and then scored the final five goals of the game to win in convincing fashion.
Senior midfielder Matt Dollive had two goals and two assists, junior midfielder Connor Moore had two goals and one assist, and sophomore midfielder Shea Brennan also scored twice. Sophomore attackman Jack Meyer had a goal and two assists, sophomore middie Will Madden tallied a goal and an assist, and freshman Michael Hoarle won 12 of 24 face-offs and also assisted on two goals directly off of face-off wins.
Senior goalie Aiden Kessler made nine saves in goal.
Wall will play at Manasquan on Wednesday in the semifinals. It will be the third meeting between the archrivals this season with Manasquan winning 9-6 during the regular season and Wall winning 7-3 in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals.
South Group 1 - Quarterfinals
3-Shore 8, 6-Delaware Valley 3
Senior midfielder Jamie Mazzacco notched a hat trick and junior goalie Walker Hunter made 15 saves to lead the Blue Devils past the Terriers and into the semifinals.
Shore will travel to face second-seeded Haddonfield in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Ben Levy scored twice, Sam Madalone had a goal and two assists, Carson Cooke had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Decker scored twice. Carson Spallone dished out two assists.
Shore scored four times in the second quarter to open a 5-3 halftime lead. The Blue Devils then shut out DelVal over the final two quarters.
Non-Public A - First Round
8-CBA 10, 9-Bergen Catholic 9
Junior attackman Nick Blalock scored four goals and added two assists and sophomore attackman Ryan Martin tallied three goals and one assist to send the Colts into the quarterfinals with an opening-round win over the Crusaders.
Brendan Donnelly added a goal and an assist and Davis Campbell and Ian Macrae each scored once. Sophomore goalie Brandon DeSena made nine saves.
The victory for CBA avenged an 11-10 loss to BC on opening day.
The Colts will play at top-seeded Don Bosco Prep in the quarterfinals.
