SHORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

FIRST ROUND

3-Southern 16, 14-Red Bank Catholic 5

The Rams (11-0) broke the game open with seven goals in the third quarter to eliminate the Caseys (7-8) and advance to the quarterfinals.

Senior attackman Nick Simonelli led a balanced scoring effort with four goals and two assist, while senior midfielders James and Jon Manzo each scored three  goals. Junior attackman Kyle Mulrane had one goal and two assists and junior midfielder Will Johnson added one goal and one assist. Ryan McWhorter, Ryan Comfort, Dylan Smith and Nick Fontana also scored, while junior midfielder Gian Carlo Disporto dished out three assists. Tristan Farina made nine saves and Connor Black stopped four shots.

Southern, which is the defending SCT champion and the only undefeated team in the Shore Conference, will host sixth-seeded Freehold Township in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Senior attackman Alec Mintz led Red Bank Catholic with three goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Liam McArdle had one goal and one assist and sophomore midfielder Jack Capcsos scored once. Senior midfielder Brett Habich had two assists and senior goalie Matt Benjamin made 15 saves.

Southern had a 42-26 edge in shots.

 

REGULAR SEASON

CLASS B SOUTH

St. Rose 13, Donovan Catholic 5

Sophomore attackman Shane Reilly had a game-high seven points with five goals and two assists and junior attackman Griffin McDermott had four goals and two assists to power the Purple Roses (4-8, 1-5) to a victory over the Griffins (3-11, 0-5).

Reilly extended his goal-scoring streak to 10 games, and netted five goals in a game for the second time this season. Junior midfielder Jack Cusack had a hat trick and junior attackman Chris Bormida added one goal and two assists. Junior goalie Robbie Brugnoli made 13 saves.

Seniors Matt Baltus and Hunter MacPherson each had two goals and one assist to lead Donovan Catholic. Senior midfielder Pete Schlendorf scored once and Andrew Steitz made 12 saves.

St. Rose outshot Donovan Catholic, 25-16.

 

NONDIVISIONAL

Red Bank 16, Middletown North 11

Senior attackman Cole Smolokoff had a game to remember on senior night with a hand in 12 of the Bucs' 16 goals to fuel a win over the Lions (6-10).

Smolokoff scored four goals and added a whopping eight assists as Red Bank improved to 8-9. Senior midfielder Brian Fagan, junior midfielder Pat Karr and sophomore attackman Dan Bonanno had three goals apiece, while senior midfielder Ryan Gilmartin finished with two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Evan Peterson scored once.

Senior goalie Jon Pierce had another stellar game with 23 saves as he moves closer to 1,000 career saves. Pierce is already third all-time in New Jersey for career saves, and can pass Glen Ridge's Jack Davis (957) to move into second place when the Bucs play Middletown South on Wednesday.

Senior attackman Bryan Flannigan had three goals to lead Middletown North. Junior midfielder Brock Zenker and senior midfielder Connor Hedlund each had two goals and one assist, and senior attackman Ryan Aker had one goal and two assists. Senior midfielder Khristian Acosta chipped in with one goal and one assist and senior midfielders Hayden Fairhurst and Peter Bracken each scored once.

 

Middletown South 16, Ranney 1

Junior attackman Mike Gallicchio scored four goals with one assist and senior Anthony Sarci scored twice to lead the Eagles (7-10) past the Panthers (0-11).

Senior midfielder Tom Baccelieri and junior midfielder Ryan Mitisiopoulis each had one goal and one assist.

 

Marlboro 4, Point Boro 3

 

NONCONFERENCE

Neptune 10, Nottingham 8
