Seaview Orthopaedics Week 2 Player of the Week

Zach Molod, Marlboro

Senior Jack Seidler was Marlboro’s top scorer last week and classmate Jon Spatola was the WOBM Christmas Classic Most Valuable Pplayer – keeping with the theme that the All-Shore duo continues to lead Marlboro during its impressive run over the last three seasons. Without Molod’s effort, however, Marlboro doesn’t win the WOBM Classic title and remain on top of the Shore Sports Network rankings for another week.

Molod scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, in routs of Brick Memorial and Manchester in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then came up with 19 big points in the championship win over Red Bank Catholic – including 17 of Marlboro’s 28 points in the first half.

Molod's value came into sharper focus at the start of this week, when the senior missed Marlboro's game at Christian Brothers Academy due to illness and the Mustangs fell to CBA, 66-60, in overtime to suffer their first loss of the season. Molod is expected to be out for an extended stretch of games, according to Marlboro coach Mike Nausedas -- a stretch that will include Marlboro's rematch with Red Bank Catholic Saturday at Brookdale Community College for the Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase.

Molod won a two-man race over runner-up and Holmdel sophomore Nick Seeloch, winning a close vote by a margin of 35 percent to 33.5. For winning the Week 2 Player of the Week contest, Molod will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt courtesy of Seaview Orthopaedics and a $25 gift card to the Turning Point restaurant.
