TOMS RIVER - Kenny Jones thought his chance to win the Most Valuable Player award at the Senior All-Star Game Monday night went out the window when his East All-Star Team lost to the West, 118-110.

After all, when you just finished a three-year career at Mater Dei Prep with a team that went 74-12, there are no consolation prizes for winning.

To his surprise, his performance was so good, the final score didn't matter. Jones was the star among stars Monday, scoring a game-high 27 points by making his first seven shots in the East team's loss.

He opposed Mater Dei teammates Yasin Pretlow and Kyle Cardaci, who helped lead the victory. Pretlow was a facilitator while he was on the floor and Cardaci scored the go-ahead layup with three minutes left to make it 104-102.

Jones is heading to Loyola University Maryland in the fall after his second straight Shore Sports Network All-Shore season and first as a member of the First Team.

Raritan guard Zach Mojica followed with a clinching three-pointer, his third of the game. Middletown South swingman Dave Gervase, meanwhile, buried four three-pointers for the West team.
