Class A North

Marlboro 60, Middletown South 38

Junior P.J. Ringel scored 18 points to go with five assists and three steals to help lead the Mustangs (3-3, 2-1) past the Eagles (1-6, 0-3), snapping a three-game losing streak. Senior Matt Dean chipped in 14 points, 18 reboounds and four assists in the win.

Freehold Boro 51, Howell 49

Junior Markee Gill scored a game-high 18 points and the Colonials (2-4, 1-2) edged the Rebels (4-4, 2-1) for their first Class A North win of the season.

Sophomore Brandon Wilson led three Howell players in double-figure scoring with 14 points. Senior Matt Morton added 12 points and senior Steve Palumbo chipped in 10.

Middletown North 64, No. 10 Freehold Twp. 61

Freshman Rob Higgins scored 21 points and handed out six assists and the Lions (5-2, 2-1) outlasted the Patriots (4-4, 1-2) in a tight Class A North showdown.

Sophomore Dave Campbell added 13 points and four assists for Middletown North and senior teammate Colin Frawley poured in 10 points to go with seven rebounds.

Senior Nick Facendo led Freehold Township with 19 points and senior John Carroll posted 15 points and 21 rebounds in the loss.

 

Class A Central

St. John Vianney 56, Holmdel 46

Seniors Zach Howarth and Grant Goode combined for 51 of the 56 St. John Vianney points and the Lancers (5-2, 2-0) topped the crosstown rival Hornets (2-3, 1-2).

Howarth finished with a game-high 28 points, while Goode netted 23. Junior Nick Harris led Holmdel with 17 points.

Rumson-Fair Haven 53, Shore 30

Sophomores Jack Solano and Teddy Sourlis scored 11 points each and the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2) coasted to a win over the Blue Devils (1-7, 0-2). Senior Brendan Barry chipped in nine points and six assists, while fellow senior Mickey Schluter also scored nine points in the win.

Raritan 53, Monmouth 37

Raritan's senior trio of Joe Strand, Eddie Tynion and Jordan Smith combined for 39 points to help the Rockets (5-1, 3-0) top the Falcons (0-6, 0-3).

Strand scored a game-high 16 points, while Tynion chipped in 12 and Smith added 11. Senior Matt Mooney led Monmouth with 12 points.

 

Class A South

No. 5 Toms River North 74, Southern 67

Juniors Mike Nyisztor and Jaden Rhoden scored 24 points each and the Mariners (5-1, 2-0) outscored the Rams (2-4, 0-2) 30-20 in the fourth quarter to pick up a key road win in Class A South.

Nyisztor scored 12 points in the fourth, during which Toms River North forced 10 Southern turnovers.

Senior Peyton Wejnert led Southern with 29 points and eight rebounds, including 13 points during the third quarter to send the Rams to the final eight minutes with a 47-44 lead.

Senior Mark Valeriani added 14 points, eight assists and three steals for Southern, while senior teammate Ethan Dubois pitched in 11 points and eight assists.

Toms River East 86, Jackson Memorial 58

Junior Phil Lingat led four Toms River East players in double-figure scoring with 16 points and was one of 12 players on his team to score as the Raiders (4-1, 2-0) rolled to a win over the Jaguars (2-4, 1-2).

Senior Ryan West netted 14 points, sophomore Zyaire Dorn added 11 points and seven rebounds and senior Carlos Lingat chipped in 10 points and four steals.

Senior Chris Hawryluk led Jackson Memorial with a game-high 24 points.

 

Class B North

No. 9 Colts Neck 56, No. 7 Neptune 39

Senior Lloyd Daniels scored 17 points and handed out nine assists as the Cougars (4-1, 2-1) buried the Scarlet Fliers (2-4, 1-2) with a big run in the second quarter to pick up their fourth straight win.

Senior Tom O'Reilly added 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while senior Kyle Gordon threw in nine points to go with 10 rebounds.

Colts Neck blew open the game with a 16-2 run to start the second quarter that turned a 9-9 game into a 25-11 Colts Neck lead. The Cougars led by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter.

Junior Barry Brown led Neptune with 14 points.

Ocean 55, Wall 52

Senior Manny Padron scored 17 points to lead a balanced scoring effort and the Spartans (4-3, 1-2) beat the Crimson Knights (2-4, 1-2) for their fourth straight win following an 0-3 start to the season.

Junior Darius Brown pumped in 14 points and senior Jake Talarico added 12 in the Ocean win.

No. 8 Long Branch 52, Red Bank Catholic 40

Senior Anthony Velazquez scored a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds and six assists and the Green Wave (4-2, 3-0) snapped a two-game skid by beating the Caseys (2-5, 1-3) on the road. Senior Jamar Foster added 14 points in the victory.

Senior Eddie Hahn led Red Bank Catholic with 12 points as the Caseys dropped their fifth straight.

Matawan 51, Red Bank 42

Junior Pat Hennessy led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points and the Huskies (4-2, 2-1) outscored the Bucs (4-3, 2-2) by 10 points in the third quarter to spark a Class B North win.

Senior Randy Myers added 12 points and senior Mergim Gjyriqi scored seven of his 11 points in the third quarter.

Senior Matt Reardon led Red Bank with 17 points while sophomore Devin Cooper added 13.

 

Class B Central

No. 2 Mater Dei Prep 74, Keyport 34

Junior Elijah Mitchell scored a game-high 21 points and the Seraphs (4-1, 3-0) outscored the Red Raiders (2-3, 1-2) 47-16 in the second half to blow open what was a seven-point game early in the third quarter.

Senior Kyle Elliot added 17 points and senior NyQuan McCombs poured in 14 for Mater Dei. Senior Travis Alvarez led Keyport with 11 points.

No. 6 Ranney 42, Point Beach 40

Freshmen Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis both hit key free throws in the final minute of the game and the Panthers (6-0, 3-0) rallied from a five-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to beat the Garnet Gulls (1-4, 0-3) and remain unbeaten.

Antoine finished with 12 points and hit the go-ahead free throws with four seconds left before making one out of two to cap the scoring with 1.6 left. Lewis hit a pair of go-ahead free throws with 44 seconds left before Point Beach sophomore Danny Frauenheim knocked down a pair of foul shots on the other end to give the Garnet Gulls a 40-39 lead with 28 seconds left.

Freshman Chris Autino scored a team-high 14 points to lead Ranney, all of which came in the first three quarters. Senior Alex Mrusek led Point Beach with a game-high 15 points while sophomore teammate Trevor Covey added 12.

St. Rose 68, Asbury Park 50

Junior Nick Paterno led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points and the Purple Roses (3-4, 2-1) topped the Blue Bishops (2-3, 2-1). Junior Josmere Taylor led Asbury Park with 12 points.
