Class A North

No. 9 Freehold Twp. 68, Freehold Boro 35

Senior Seth Meisner led a balanced scoring effort that saw nine players record at least a point and the Patriots (2-0, 2-0) cooled off the rival Colonials (2-1, 1-1), who opened the season with wins over Long Branch and Lakewood.

Senior Greg Billups added 10 points and sophomore Zach Orrico hit three three-pointers to finish with nine points for Freehold Township.

Senior Jack Bisaha and Lucas Bruckmann each scored eight points to lead Freehold Boro.

 

Class A Central

Holmdel 50, Raritan 31

Junior Doug Chan scored a game-high 14 points and the Hornets (2-0, 2-0) closed the game on an 18-1 run beat the Rockets (1-2, 0-2). Junior Derek Chan added nine points for Holmdel, which clung to a 32-30 early in the fourth before breaking it open.

Senior Tim Hayes led Raritan with eight points and senior Rob LaVilla added seven in the loss.

 

Class A South

Brick Memorial 56, Jackson Memorial 36

Senior Nick Manso scored 17 points and handed out four assists as the Mustangs (2-0, 2-0) rolled past the Jaguars (0-2, 0-2) for their second straight win to open the season.

Senior Matt Bernstein added 14 points and 15 rebounds for Brick Memorial, while seniors Kyle McMahon and Nick Dominguez chipped in 10 each for Brick Memorial. Dominguez also grabbed nine rebounds and handed out seven assists.

Senior Jayson Lee led Jackson Memorial with 12 points.

No. 8 Toms River North 62, Brick 47 

Junior Jakari Spence score 24 points to go with six assists and three steals to lead the Mariners (1-1, 1-0) past the Green Dragons (1-1, 1-1) for their 47th straight win in Class A South divisional play.

Junior Najae Hallenbeck added 12 points and 12 rebounds and senior Nick Duncsak also scored 12 points to go with six rebounds for Toms River North.

Senior Shane Williams led Brick with 21 points and 11 rebounds and classmate Jalen Jackson posted 14 points, four assists and four steals. Junior Anthony Maniscalo also scored 12 points in the loss on four three-pointers.

Toms River East 65, Southern 49

Junior Ryan Goodall scored 21 points and added three assists and five steals to lead the Raiders (2-0, 1-0) to a win over the Rams (0-2, 0-2).

Senior Josh Nicol added 12 points, six rebounds and four steals and sophomore Mark Roma scored all 10 of his points in the second half for Toms River East.

Toms River South 52, No. 10 Central 43

Junior Rob Marro scored a game-high 16 points and the Indians (2-0, 2-0) improved to 2-0 by handing the No. 10 Golden Eagles (0-2, 0-2) their second straight defeat to open the season.

Junior Jalen Folsom added 12 points and junior Nick Luongo chipped in 10 for Toms River South.

Senior Darius Martorano led Central with 12 points and sophomore Kyle Rhoden chipped in nine in the loss.

 

Class B North

Red Bank 40, Colts Neck 36

Junior Drew Valentino - a transfer from CBA - scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Bucs (1-1, 1-1) past the Cougars (1-1, 1-1).

After giving up a 14-point halftime lead in an opening-night loss to Wall on Friday, Red Bank led by as many as 21 points Tuesday and held on to win in the end.

St. John Vianney 61, Matawan 53 (OT)

Senior James Rapley sent the game to overtime with a game-tying shot at the fourth-quarter buzzer and the Lancers (1-1, 1-1) pulled out a win over the Huskies (1-1, 1-1).

Rapley finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds and senior Christian Booker led St. John Vianney with a game-high 18 points behind 14-for-16 shooting from the free-throw line. Junior Jahmal Garraway added 14 points for Vianney.

Junior John Beukers led Matawan with 16 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the Huskies rallied from a nine-point deficit heading to the fourth to take a 43-41 lead before Rapley tied it. Junior Niles Haliburton added 12 points and senior Justyn Coleman chipped in 11 in the loss.

 

Class B Central

Mater Dei Prep 57, Asbury Park 55

Junior Peter Gorman scored on a putback just before time expired and the Seraphs (2-1, 2-0) beat the Blue Bishops (1-1, 1-1) in thrilling fashion.

Gorman finished with 15 points and fellow junior Sean Turner led the way with 22 for Mater Dei.

Senior Alexx Harbour led Asbury Park with a game-high 30 points.

Henry Hudson 39, Keansburg 27

Junior Grady Hendrickson scored 12 points and senior Jay Anthony added 11 to help the Admirals (1-2, 1-1) top the Titans (1-2, 1-1) for their first win of the season. Junior Nasir Williams led Keansburg with nine points.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 51, Point Boro 46

Junior Ryan Savoy scored 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and the Piners (2-1, 2-0) rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to beat the Panthers (1-1, 1-1). Junior De'Andre Harris chipped in eight points for Lakewood.

Freshman Dominic Schiappa led Point Boro with 14 points and junior Sam Young added 13 in the loss.

Pinelands 49, Manchester 28

Junior Andrew Schutz scored more than half his team's points and nearly outscored Manchester, finishing with a game-high 25 points to lead the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0) over the Hawks (1-1, 1-1).

Senior Anthony Diaz added nine points for Pinelands, while freshman Wyatt Hasselbauer and sophomore Trevor Pruitt each scored six points to lead Manchester.

Jackson Liberty 91, Lacey 82 (OT)

Senior Daniel Sofield exploded for 59 points and Jackson Liberty (1-1, 1-1) outscored Lacey (0-2, 0-2) in overtime to win a wild B South game. Sofield's 59 points are the most by a Shore Conference players in a single game since at least 1990.

Sofield shot 21-for-27 from the floor, including 6-for-10 from three-point range and also went 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Jackson Liberty trailed Lacey by 10 points at halftime and rallied to send the game to overtime, where Sofield and the host Lions put the game away.

The last Shore Conference player to score 50 points in a game was Rumson's Brendan Barry in February of 2016.
