No. 1 CBA 77, Howell 59

Senior Jack Laffey scored 25 points and junior Pat Andree added 21 as the Colts (9-3, 7-0) closed the first half on a 12-2 run to blow the game open and beat the Rebels (7-6, 3-4). Andree is now 34 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Senior Will Kocsis led Howell with 19 points and fellow senior Greg McManus chipped in 11 in the loss.

Manalapan 50, No. 4 Freehold Twp. 47

Senior Kyle Mullen scored the go-ahead basket with under 30 seconds to go and iced the game with two free throws with two seconds left as the Braves (8-3, 4-3) knocked off the Patriots (8-4, 4-3) on the road. Mullen finished with a game-high 18 points and senior Zach Misischia added 15 for the Braves.

Senior Tyree Wilson led Freehold Township with 14 points and Jason Czajkowski added 10 in the loss.

Marlboro 60, Freehold Boro 33

Senior George Elghoul led a balanced scoring effort with 14 points and the Mustangs (5-6, 3-4) cruised to a win over the Colonials (3-9, 1-6). Elghoul also added four assists and three steals, while Matt Ringel and Dan Weiss each chipped in nine in the win.

Ky Watts scored 10 points to lead Freehold.

Middletown North 70, Middletown South 63 (OT)

Sophomore Jules Calhoun scored 15 points to go with six rebounds and four assists, helping the Lions (5-6, 4-3) top the crosstown-rival Eagles (4-8, 2-5) in overtime. Seniors Vinny Youncofski and Dylan Frawley each added 14 points, with Youncofski hitting four threes and Frawley grabbing six rebounds.

Freshman Dave Campbell also added 11 points for Middletown North, while senior Dan Roibal led Middletown South with a game-high 19 points.

 

Class A Central

No. 8 Manasquan 45, Raritan 41

Junior Jack Sheehan scored a game-high 15 points and Ryan Jensen chipped in 11 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks to help the Warriors (10-3, 5-1) edge the Rockets (7-6, 2-4). Chris Nicholl led Raritan with 13 points.

Shore 55, Holmdel 34

Senior Dan Largey scored 23 points and senior Kevin Bloodgood added 22 as the Blue Devils (9-2, 5-1) coasted to a win over the Hornets (4-6, 2-4). Senior Luke Mayell led Holmdel with 10 points.

St. John Vianney 48. Monmouth 47

Junior Zach Howarth scored a game-high 25 points and the Lancers (7-6, 2-4) escaped with a win and denied the Falcons (0-12, 0-6) their first victory of the season. Junior Matt DeBrizzi added 11 points in the win.

Matt Mooney scored 13 points to lead Monmouth and Tyler Hawkins added 12 in the loss.

 

Class A South

No. 10 Southern 65, Lacey 41

Junior Peyto Wejnert scored 20 points and junior Jake Logue added 19 to help lead the Rams (9-3, 5-2) to a win over the Lions (3-6, 2-4). Senior center Chris Iapicco led Lacey with 27 points and 10 rebounds and is now eight points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Brick Memorial 67, Brick 52

Senior Aaron Scheiderman scored a game-high 28 points and R.J. Hernandez added 14 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Mustangs (6-5, 5-2) to a win over the Green Dragons (1-10, 1-6). Senior Scott White also scored 13 points for Brick Memorial.

Senior Brian Oehme led Brick with 18 points.

Toms River South 70, Toms River East 66

Senior Tymere Berry followed up his 42-point game Friday by scoring 28 points Tuesday to lead the Indians (6-4, 4-2) to a win over the Raiders (4-6, 2-5). Berry also grabbed eight rebounds, while senior Khaleel Green added 22 points and junior Tyler Fall chipped in 13 in the win.

Junior Ryan West led Toms River East with a career-high 30 points and sophomore Phil Lingat poured in 20 in defeat.

 

Class B North

Neptune 42, Long Branch 32

Senior Micah Kerr scored 15 points and the Scarlet Fliers (5-7, 1-6) beat the Green Wave (1-10, 0-7) for their first Class B North win of the season. Sophomore Barry Brown added nine points in the win, while sophomore Fred Reeves led Long Branch with 16 points.

No. 9 Wall 48, No. 7 Colts Neck 44

Senior Joe Tashjy scored the go-ahead basket on a tip-in with 30 seconds left and the Crimson Knights (9-2, 6-1) hung on to beat the Cougars (8-3, 5-2) for their eighth straight win. With the win, coupled with a Red Bank loss to Red Bank Catholic, Wall moves into sole possession of first place one year after finishing last place with a 1-11 division record.

Tashjy finished with nine points, while Brendan Barcas and Ryan Janeczek led Wall with 13 points each. Senior Trent Mitchell also poured in 11 points in the win.

Senior Chris O'Reilly led Colts Neck with a game-high 19 points.

Matawan 55, Ocean 31

Senior Jason Dunne scored a game-high 17 points and senior Nick Smith scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter to help the Huskies (6-6, 4-3) handle the Spartans (4-7, 2-5).

Red Bank Catholic 56, No. 2 Red Bank 53 (OT)

Senior Liam Byrne hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points as the Caseys (8-5, 5-3) beat the Bucs (9-2, 6-2) for the second time this year, the only two losses Red Bank has suffered this season.

Junior Evan Madigan and senior Kevin Fazio each added 11 points and junior Eddie Hahn contributed 10 for Red Bank Catholic, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Senior Jimmy Ferrogine led Red Bank with 15 points and junior Sadiq Palmer poured in 14 in the loss.

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 53, Keansburg 17

Senior Matt Frost scored a game-high 15 points and the Purple Roses (6-6, 6-1) cruised to a win over the Titans (0-10, 0-7).

Point Beach 51, Henry Hudson 45

The Admirals (4-5, 2-5) took a 25-23 lead into the second half, but the Garnet Gulls (8-4, 7-0) seized control in the third quarter and held on for the win. Junior Mike Rice scored a game-high 21 points, while senior Mike Frauenheim added 14 points and junior Jimmy Panzini chipped in 13.

Junior Chris Coberg led Henry Hudson with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Point Beach played without senior forward and leading scorer Jesse Hill (ankle).

Mater Dei Prep 58, Asbury Park 42

Senior Tysaun White scored a game-high 22 points and sophomore Shane Mastro added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Seraphs (6-7, 5-2) beat the Blue Bishops (4-5, 4-3). Mikal Fearon led Asbury Park with 10 points.

 

Class B South

No. 6 Lakewood 76, Manchester 43

Junior Amir Tyler scored a game-high 29 points and the Piners (10-1, 7-0) routed the Hawks (7-3, 6-1) to seize sole possession of first place in Class B South through one turn in the schedule. Junior Tyreek Grayson added 17 points, six assists and three steals while senior Ryan Lawrence added 15 points.

Junior Shavar Reynolds led Manchester with 17 points and classmate Israel Almestica added 10 in the loss.

Point Boro 54, Pinelands 50

Donovan Catholic 58, Central 48

Senior James Fata scored 18 points and junior Mike Boice added 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks to lead the Griffins (6-4, 4-3) to a win over the Golden Eagles (5-5, 4-3).

Barnegat 43, Jackson Liberty 37

Senior Kyle Morris scored 12 points to lead a balanced scoring effort and help the Bengals (6-6, 3-4) beat the Lions (1-9, 0-7) and even their record at .500. J'Son Clark led Jackson Liberty with 12 points, while Lateef Foster added 10 in the loss.

 

Monday, Jan. 19

Class A South

No. 3 Toms River North 60, Jackson Memorial 29

Junior Pat Marinaccio led four Toms River North players in double-figures with 14 points and also pulled down eight rebounds to help lead the Mariners (11-1, 6-1) to a win over the Jaguars (3-7, 2-5). Senior Ted Thelemaque added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Nyisztor and Jordan Craig each poured in 10 points.

At Kean University

St. Mary's Elizabeth 83, Red Bank Catholic 56

Senior Liam Byrne and junior Evan Madigan each scored 16 points, but the Caseys (7-5) lost control of the game after taking a 30-29 lead into the second half.
