Class A North

No. 4 Colts Neck 66, Freehold Boro 43

Senior Dan Gaines scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Cougars (9-1, 4-1) to a bounceback win over the Colonials (1-7, 1-4) after dropping their first game of the season Tuesday vs. CBA in overtime.

Senior Sabour Quddus added 11 points for Colts Neck, while senior Ashante Worthy led Freehold Boro with 14 points.

Marlboro 58, Manalapan 42

Junior Dylan Kaufman scored a game-high 18 points and senior Justin Marcus threw in 11 points, eight rebounds and eight steals to lead the Mustangs (5-4, 3-2) over the Braves (4-5, 1-3).

Sophomore Alex Ratner added 13 points and four steals and senior Brian Levine chipped in seven points, seven assists and seven steals for Marlboro.

Senior Alex Purzynski matched Kaufman with 18 points to lead Manalapan.

No. 6 CBA 43, Neptune 42

Junior Stephen Braunstein scored a game-high 16 points and the Colts (5-3, 4-0) overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to take down the Scarlet Fliers (6-3, 4-1) and move into sole possession of first place in the early part of the Class A North season. Braunstein also added five rebounds and three assists.

Senior Nolan Madden poured in 11 points for CBA, which trailed at halftime, 27-15, before rallying to tie the game at 32-32 by the end of the third quarter.

Senior Jared Kimbrough led Neptune with 14 points and 12 rebounds while freshman Sam Fagan added 11 points in the loss.

 

Class A South

Toms River East 60, Jackson Memorial 54

Senior Nick Silvia scored a game-high 23 points and the Raiders (4-5, 3-2) held off a second-half comeback by the Jaguars (2-7, 1-3) to pick up an A South road win.

Sophomore Ryan Goodall added 12 points and senior Zyaire Dorn poured in nine for Toms River East, which led 36-12 in the second quarter and 37-22 at the half.

Sophomore Ronnie Bantang led Jackson Memorial with 15 points. Senior Alex Cabrera threw in 13 points and junior Joe Schlageter netted 12 in the loss.

Brick Memorial 48, Toms River South 31

Senior Vinny Vecchione and junior Matt Bernstein each scored nine points to lead a balanced scoring effort that helped the Mustangs (5-4, 4-2) roll to a win over the Indians (1-7, 0-4). Senior Jake Sliazis also poured in eight points for Brick Memorial.

Brick 67, Southern 44

Junior Shane Williams pumped in 24 points and classmate Jalen Jackson scored 23 to lead the Green Dragons (6-1, 3-1) to a win over the Rams (4-6, 2-3) in their first action since a holiday tournament win on Dec. 28.

Williams also grabbed 12 rebounds while Jackson handed out five assists.

Senior Thomas Foster led Southern with 15 points and eight rebounds while junior Vinnie Deck added 11 points in the loss.

No. 7 Toms River North 72, Central 39

Senior Travis Holland scored 11 points to go with 10 rebounds and the Mariners (8-2, 5-0) cruised past the Golden Eagles (1-8, 1-4) for their 37th consecutive win against Class A South competition.

Sophomore Colin Baker added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists while senior Mark Mogarte directed the offense with seven points and six assists for Toms River North, which had 12 players in the scoring column on Thursday.

Junior Darius Martorano led Central with a game-high 15 points.

 

Class B North

No. 10 Red Bank Catholic 67, Monmouth 45

Junior John Duffy and sophomore Kevin Bauman each scored 13 points and the Caseys (7-3, 3-2) cruised past the Falcons (0-8, 0-5). Bauman also added six rebounds in his second game of the season after missing RBC's first eight games due to injury.

Junior Stephen Lubischer added eight points and six rebounds while junior Charlie Gordinier put up eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for RBC.

Senior Ryan Cronin led Monmouth with 14 points and Kerron Holley added 12 in the loss.

 

Class B Central

No. 1 Ranney 59, No. 2 Mater Dei Prep 45

Junior Scottie Lewis scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, including the 1,000th point of his varsity career, and the Panthers (9-2, 5-0) led wire-to-wire in a win over the rival Seraphs (8-2, 5-1).

Lewis entered the game 17 points away from the milestone and reached it on a pair of free throws with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter.

Senior Savior Akuwovo added 13 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks for Ranney, while junior Bryan Antoine added 11 points, three steals and two blocks.

Senior Kenny Jones and junior Alex Rice scored 12 points each to lead Mater Dei, with Rice also adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior Yasin Pretlow added nine points and Ranney held Seraphs leading scorer Kyle Cardaci to seven for the game.

No. 8 Point Beach 79, Henry Hudson 42

Senior Danny Frauenheim scored his 1,000th career point in the opening minutes and the Garnet Gulls (7-2, 4-1) coasted to a win over the Admirals (1-7, 0-4).

Frauenheim finished with 15 points while senior teammate Trevor Covey poured in a game-high 20 to lead Point Beach. Senior Josh Yates also dropped 12 points in the win.

Class B South

Donovan Catholic 44, Lakewood 40

Senior Anthony Silvestrone scored 16 points and added three steals as the Griffins (4-4, 3-2) held the Piners (4-4, 2-3) to just four points in the final quarter to secure a big B South win over the nine-time defending division champions.

Seniors Joe San Filippo and Jethro Moll added nine points each, with San Filippo also throwing in six rebounds and four steals for Donovan Catholic.

Senior Kevin Dent led Lakewood with 18 points and senior Jyheir Jones pitched in 12 in defeat.

Manchester 57, Jackson Liberty 53

Sophomore Josh Hayes scored 20 points and the Hawks (1-8, 1-4) clipped the Lions (5-4, 2-3) for their first win of the season. Senior Jerry Ward added 12 points for Manchester.

Junior Daniel Sofield led Jackson Liberty with 29 points and nine rebounds and is now 41 points shy of 1,000 for his high school career. Senior Kyle White also chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Point Boro 62, Barnegat 46

Senior Connor Costigan scored 20 points and the Panthers (7-1, 5-0) pulled away from the Bengals (4-4, 1-3) in the second half to remain unbeaten in Class B South.

Senior John Chipak posted 10 points and 10 rebounds while senior John Duda pitched in 13 points, six rebounds four assists and two steals for Point Boro. Senior point guard Connor Strickland also tallied six points, 10 assists and four steals in the win.

Senior Carson Francisco led Barnegat with a game-high 23 points while senior Mike Revello netted nine in a losing cause.

Pinelands 54, Lacey 47

Juniors Anthony Diaz and Andrew Schulz each scored 18 points and the Wildcats (5-4, 3-1) beat the Lions (4-4, 2-3) for their third straight win. Sophomore Ryan Skeie also poured in 14 points for Pinelands.

Junior Carl Swensen led Lacey with 18 points and sophomore Kalvin Kuhn added 11 in the loss.

 

Non-Division

St. John Vianney 64, St. Rose 58

Senior Chris Mikos scored 19 points and the Lancers (4-7) outlasted the Purple Roses (5-4) in a battle of Shore non-publics. Senior Zach Moran also chipped in 11 points for St. John Vianney.

Senior John Crowley led St. Rose with 15 points and senior Dave Calloway poured in 14 in the loss.
