Dylan Csik, Sr., 5-9, Guard, Middletown South

2022-23 Stats: 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.36 assists, 1.4 steals, 29 3-pointers, 72.64 FT%

Middletown South returned to prominence this season by winning its second Shore Conference division championship in the last four years, doing so after a pair of rebuilding seasons. Csik was a key cog in that rebuild after watching the Eagles put together a 26-3 campaign as a freshman in 2019-20 and aspiring to get the team back to that level as soon as possible. He did just that, leading Middletown South to the Class B North title while finishing fifth in the conference in assists per game. Csik closed out his senior season strong, averaging 16.75 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.25 assists in four postseason tournament games – including 18 points, five boards and six assists in a big road win over Jackson Memorial in the NJSIAA Tournament.

Jaycen Santucci, So., 6-3, Guard, Central

2022-23 Stats: 17.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.5 steals, 0.93 blocks, 75 FT%

Following up on a solid varsity debut as a freshman, Santucci got off to a strong start in his sophomore season, but took his game to a new level in February. Central played eight games from Feb. 1 through the end of the season and Santucci averaged 20.25 points, eight rebounds and 2.37 steals during that span, which included five tournament games. Santucci finished his season off with his best effort, scoring a career-high 30 points to go with 12 rebounds in a first-round win over Rancocas Valley in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV bracket, followed by 21 and seven in an overtime loss at Eastern. Santucci is poised to return as one of the Shore’s top players as a junior in 2023-24.

Josh Michigan, Sr., 6-4, Guard, Brick Memorial

2022-23 Stats: 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 30 3-pointers, 66.44 FT%

One of four players in this year’s Shore Conference to score at least 20 points per game, Michigan was Ocean County’s leading scorer and the fourth-best scorer in the conference as a whole while also decorating his career résumé by reaching the 1,000-point milestone. Although he was fourth in the conference in scoring, he led the Shore with four 30-plus-point games, giving him five total for his career. The season-high was a 35-point effort vs. Point Beach, but the two biggest came in the form of 30 points in a win at Toms River North and 30 points and 14 rebounds in a first-round win over Burlington Township in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III Tournament.

Malachi Harris, Sr., 6-1, Guard, Freehold Township

2022-23 Stats: 15.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.9 steals, 22 3-pointers, 62.4 FT%

While classmate Jayden Holmes-Cotter was the interior force that kept opposing coaches tossing and turning the night before playing Freehold Township, Harris was the team’s motor that kept the machine running at a fast pace. Harris got better and better as the season carried along and peaked during the last eight games of the season. Once the calendar flipped to February, Harris became a lights-out scorer to go with his playmaking ability. In those last eight games, the senior averaged 20.1 points to go with 4.5 assists and 3.12 steals – including 18.25 points, 4.5 assists and 3.25 steals in tournament play.

Jack O’Leary, Sr., 6-2, Forward, Raritan

2022-23 Stats: 15.8 points, 8.6 rebounds

At nearly 16 points and more than eight rebounds on a blue-collar, unselfish, senior-led team, O’Leary was the headliner on team that came from under the radar to win 21 games. There are some games that show off what a player can do, others that show off what a team can do and some that provide a good look at both. Early in the season, O’Leary and his Raritan squad were proving their prowess in lockstep, with O’Leary pouring in 24 points to go with 10 rebounds in a resounding win over Holmdel. The senior scored another 24 in a classic, triple-overtime win over Central – a preview, as it turned out, for the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal. Speaking of the SCT, Raritan validated its 17-0 start to the season by winning its way to both the conference and Central Jersey Group II semifinals, losing to Manasquan at both stops. O’Leary was a model of consistency, scoring double-figures in 22 of 24 games this season and eclipsing 20 points six times – all in Raritan’s first 12 games.

Pat Brown, Sr., 6-2, Guard/Forward, Middletown South

2022-23 Stats: 15.25 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.33 steals, 43 3-pointers, 75.7 FT%

The other half of Middletown South’s dynamic duo, Brown worked himself into becoming a well-rounded scorer, as well as an all-around player. On a balanced Middletown South team that plays an appealing style with a lot of ball movement, Brown was the player who most often finished off possessions with points for the Eagles. Brown did not crack 20 points in a game until he scored 25 in a Jan. 14 win over Howell, but went on to score 20 or more five more times the rest of the way. His two biggest performances were a 23-point, 11-rebound performance in a win over Colts Neck that clinched Middletown South the Class B North title, followed by 20 points and 12 rebounds in a road win over Jackson Memorial in the Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinals.
