MANASQUAN - The Manasquan boys basketball team started its season with a win over Ocean on Dec. 15 and when the Spartans - now ranked No. 8 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 - paid No. 4 Manasquan a visit Thursday in the second meeting between the two teams, they were attempting to do the same thing they tried and failed to do on opening night: hand Manasquan its first loss of the season.

Junior Brad McCabe scored a team-high 16 points and the Warriors extended their season-opening winning streak to 11 games by beating the Spartans Ocean for the second time this season, this time by a 49-38 score.

Manasquan beat Ocean, 44-35, in the opener behind 18 points by senior Ryan Flanagan, which turned out to be the first big game in what has been a breakout season for the senior point guard.

Ocean limited Flanagan to six points on Thursday, but McCabe - who scored only six points in the first meeting - beat the Spartans with his 16-point effort. Senior Emilio Stevenson and junior Xander Korolik also added 12 points apiece for Manasquan, with Korolik adding 12 rebounds to his night of work.

Despite scoring nine points below his season average, Flanagan kept his teammates involved with five assists.

Senior Andrew Seager led Ocean with a game-high 22 points and sophomore Jack Miller poured in 15 in defeat. The loss is the second straight for Ocean, which entered the week ranked for the first time this season following a five-game winning streak.
