Orthopaedic Institute of Central Jersey Week 3 Player of the Week

Matt Lee, Point Boro

After taking some lumps in 2018-19 with a young roster that was largely set to return, the Point Pleasant Boro boys basketball team lost two players in Dom Schiappa and Cole Young that figured to be key pieces in 2020.

Instead of stalling, the Panthers have taken off behind a number of heroes that have lead the march to the top of the Class B South standings. Last week, it was sophomore Matt Lee that earned the Class B South Player of the Week nod and the Shore Sports Network readers voted him the overall Player of the Week with 28 percent of the vote.

Senior Alex Drucquer, senior Sam Young, freshman Stephen Mellet, among others have all had big moments during the Panthers' eight-game winning streak along with Lee. Last week, Lee led the Panthers in scoring in wins over both Pinelands on Jan. 14 and Barnegat on Jan. 17. He scored 15 in the win over Pinelands and poured in 16 in a key win over the Bengals, which extended Point Boro's division lead to two games.

Lee was one of four candidates this week to draw at least 14 percent of the vote, with Raritan sophomore Justin Rivera, Freehold Township junior Joe Lardaro and Neptune sophomore Malik Fields all crossing that threshold. For winning the latest Player of the Week vote, Lee will receive gift card to Surf Taco.
