Central Jersey Group III
(9) Long Branch 59, (8) Lakewood 54
Sophomore Marc Dennis scored 18 points and the Green Wave (15-10) rolled into Lakewood and knocked off the Piners (16-11) to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday at top-seeded Ewing.
Junior Jyheir Jones led Lakewood with 21 points while senior Adi Palmer chipped in 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
(12) Wall 69, (5) Moorestown 60
Junior Steve Geis pumped in 21 points and the Crimson Knights (11-15) scored a road win over the Quakers (19-7) to earn a sectional quarterfinal date with No. 4 Westampton Tech on Thursday.
Senior Gene Scott also scored 18 points and senior R.J. Janeczek helped the Wall cause with 15.
(6) Lawrence 68, (11) Brick 59
Sophomore Shane Williams scored 16 points and the Green Dragons (14-11) took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals (18-7) closed with a 21-11 run over the final eight minutes to deny Brick the road win in the state tournament.
Senior Doug Boor added 14 points and senior Noah Buono poured in 12 for Brick. Myles Mitchell-White (22 points) and Shemar Robinson (21) combined for 43 points to lead Lawrence, which will travel to No. 3 Neptune for Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.
(10) Matawan 58, (7) Ocean 54
Freshman John Beukers scored 17 points to go with seven boards and junior Mike Dunne chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists to help lead the Huskies (14-13) past the Spartans (16-10) and into the sectional semifinals Thursday at No. 2 Nottingham.
Junior Andrew Seager led Ocean with 21 points and eight rebounds while freshman Jack Miller added 10 in the loss.
(3) Neptune 69, (14) Red Bank 56
Junior Jared Kimbrough scored a game-high 27 points on 12-for-14 shooting and hauled in 16 rebounds to carry the Scarlet Fliers (14-11) to an opening-round win over the Bucs (9-15). Neptune will host No. 6 Lawrence in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.
Sophomore Dwaine Jones shot 6-for-7 and finished with 16 points for Neptune, which shot 26-for-42 (62 percent) from the field as a team.
Junior Devin Cooper led Red Bank with 20 points and senior Nasir Williams poured in 14 in defeat.
Central Jersey Group I
(5) Point Beach 80, (12) Piscataway Tech 59
Junior Danny Frauenheim poured in 27 points and dished out 12 assists to lead the Garnet Gulls (18-9) to a win over Piscataway Tech (10-17) in the Central Group I opener. Point Beach will travel to No. 5 Burlington City for Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.
Junior Trevor Covey also scored 18 points and senior Steve Flanders added nine for Point Beach.
(4) Burlington City 74, (13) Keansburg 41
Junior Danny Vital scored 16 points and senior Quentin Godfrey added 15 as the Titans (7-15) fell to the Blue Devils (19-7). Burlington City will host No. 5 Point Beach in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.
(2) Bound Brook 76, (15) Keyport 30
Senior Chris Hogrefe scored 17 points but the Red Raiders (7-15) came up short against the Crusaders (18-6), who will host No. 7 Middlesex in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.
South Jersey Group III
(6) Triton 57, (11) Toms River South 39
Senior Matt Shiffer netted 12 points, but the Indians (7-16) could not keep up with the Mustangs (16-8), who will travel to play No. 3 Ocean City in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.
(1) Central 76, (16) Absegami 48
Senior Anthony Petit-Clair scored 17 points and senior Zion Hardy pitched in 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as the Golden Eagles (22-5) handled the Braves (9-16) to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against No. 8 Winslow.
(3) Ocean City 70, (14) Toms River East 49
Junior Trevor Zabilowicz scored 15 points and junior Jack Goodall added 12 but the Raiders (8-15) fell to the Vikings (18-8), who will host No. 6 Triton in Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.
South Jersey Non-Public A
(6) CBA 65, (11) Donovan Catholic 42
Sophomore Josh Cohen scored a career-high 24 points and the Colts (16-9) shook off a cold first quarter to down the Griffins (12-13) for the second time in the last two weeks. CBA also beat Donovan Catholic on Feb. 14 in the opening round of the Shore Conference Tournament.
Junior Rob Mahala added 15 points and senior Lucas Waraksa netted nine for the Colts, who will travel to play No. 3 Bishop Eustace Thursday in the sectional quarterfinals.
Senior Jared Small and sophomore Matt Melon each scored nine points to lead Donovan Catholic.
(8) Red Bank Catholic 64, (9) Paul VI 53
Senior Terence Calandrillo turned in a career performance in his final home game, posting 34 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Caseys (17-9) past the Eagles (12-13) and into the sectional quarterfinals Thursday at top-seeded St. Augustine.
Senior Mike Conley added nine points and junior Matt Ansell pitched in 12 rebounds and eight assists to go with his three points.
(4) Notre Dame 87, (13) St. John Vianney 46
Junior Zach Moran scored 12 points as the Lancers (7-18) bowed out at the hands of the Irish (23-4), who will host No. 5 Camden Catholic on Thursday.
