BRICK TWP. - Senior guard Kenny Buell banked in a shot from half court as time expired to cap a wild Shore Conference Class A South game Tuesday night and the the Brick boys basketball team stunned Southern Regional, 92-89, to win their second straight to open the season.

Buell finished with 31 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead Brick, while junior teammate Brandon Williams added 21 points, four rebounds and nine assists. Junior Noah Buono also posted 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Senior Peyton Wejnert led Southern with 31 points and nine rebounds, while senior Ethan Dubois poured in 23 points to go with four assists and four rebounds. Senior John Keizer also pitched in 16 points for Southern.

Southern head coach Eric Fierro said he will confer with Southern's athletic department and look into the possibility of protesting the game on the grounds that Buell's shot was not released before the game clock expired.

Brick is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Jackson Memorial and now Southern, the latter of which has finished second place in Class A South in each of the last two seasons. The Green Dragons have not had a winning season since 2006-07.

Buell - who transferred from Toms River North before his junior year in 2014 - is averaging 24.5 points over the first two games.
