Boys Basketball – All-Shore Fan Vote Winners
For the first time, Shore Sports Network asked the readers to help pick the final members of the All-Shore teams by participating in an All-Shore fan vote. The results are in and below are the two players that you, the reader, chose to be the fan-selected choices for the 2017 All-Shore team.
Steve Geis, Jr., Guard, Wall
Geis's junior year got off to a scorching start and he was voted the first Shore Sports Network Player of the Week of 2016-17 back in December. Over his 12 games, he averaged 18.8 points per game and recorded seven games of 20-plus points. Geis, however, suffered a hip injury during that stretch and he played through it throughout much of the second half of the season, according to Wall coach Matt Kukoda. He scored 20 points just once the rest of the way and that was a 21-point game in an NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III first-round road win over Moorestown. Geis finished up with 15.8 points and 3.4 assists per game and also led the Shore Conference by shooting 88.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Ryan Zyskowski, Sr., Forward, Freehold Township
Freehold Township enjoyed its best season in a decade thanks, in large part, to the senior trio of Steve Staklinski, Bobby Weise and Zyskowski. Staklinski was a Second Team All-Shore forward and Weise finished second in the All-Shore fan vote behind Geis. Zyskowski represented Freehold Towmship well in the voting after representing the Patriots on the court as a senior. He averaged a steady 13.7 points and six rebounds while also knocking down nearly 83 percent of his foul shots. During Freehold Township's run to the Central Jersey Group IV final, Zyskowski averaged 15.2 points and 9.25 rebounds. He put up 22 points in a win over Middletown South and posted 18 points and eight boards in the Patriots' win over Sayreville that put them in the championship game for the third straight year.
