Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Beacon 70/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.

For the second week in a row, a standout for the Marlboro High School Mustangs came out on top as junior quarterback AJ Schwarz was the runaway winner in the Week 8 Player of the Week poll. Schwartz totaled four touchdowns in Marlboro's 34-6 victory over Toms River South that continued the Mustangs' best season in over 20 years. Schwartz and all Player of the Week winners this season will receive a $25 gift card to Beacon 70 Restaurant.

Schwartz led the way for the Mustangs in their four-touchdown victory over Toms River South by completing 9 of 12 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown. He also had a tackle for loss on defense. He tossed two touchdown passes to Keith Omane-Agyei and another to Ryan Mendes.

It was a huge victory for Marlboro as they chase the third playoff appearance in program history and the first since 1999. The Mustangs are currently 15th in the South Group 5 United Power Rankigns and the top 16 qualify for the playoffs. And with a 5-2 record, Marlboro also assured itself a record at or above .500 for the first time since going 6-4 in 1999.

On the season, Schwartz has thrown for 448 yards and nine touchdowns with zero interceptions and has also rushed for 411 yards and four touchdowns. He has 16 tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Marlboro will look to lock up a playoff spot this Saturday when it hosts a Jackson Memorial team that has won two games in a row after an 0-6 start.

The Marlboro supporters voted early and often during the week to give Schwartz nearly 38 percent of all votes cast.
