Beacon 70 Shore Conference Football Player of the Week: Donovan Catholic’s Nunes Bukula IV
Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Beacon 70/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.
Donovan Catholic has dominated the headlines this week and that continues with the Week 9 Player of the Week winner as senior running back Nunes Bukula IV has been voted as the latest Beacon 70 Football Player of the Week. Bukula ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries to help lead the Griffins to a 28-7 victory over Red Bank Catholic. Bukula and all Player of the Week winners this season will receive a $25 gift card to Beacon 70 Restaurant.
Last Friday, Donovan traveled to face top-ranked and undefeated Red Bank Catholic in a huge matchup in the final week before the state playoffs. It was all Griffins throughout the night and Bukula played a major role with a game-high 156 rushing yards and touchdown runs of seven and 52 yards. The Donovan Catholic offensive line won the battle up front and Bukula did the rest to continue his excellent season.
The victory handed RBC its first loss and propelled Donovan to the No. 1 ranking in the latest The Jeep Store/Shore Sports Network Top 10. Donovan was also honored as our Jersey Mike's Week 9 Team of the Week.
Bukula cracked the 1,000-yard mark with his latest performance and now sits at 1,021 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns in nine games on an average of 8.2 yards per carry.
The Griffins are the No. 8 seed in the NJSIAA Non-Public A playoffs and will host Notre Dame on Friday night.
Bukula won the Week 9 poll with 19.85 percent of the votes to win over Raritan's Joe Campanella, with Manalapan's Alex Dille finishing third and Rumson-Fair Haven's Geoff Schroeder finishing fourth.
