Opening Round

(17) St. John Vianney at (16) Marlboro - PPD, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

A leak in the roof of Marlboro's gymnasium forced Tuesday's SCT opening-round game between the Mustangs and the Lancers to be postponed to Wednedsay.

(13) Toms River East 61, (20) Donovan Catholic 59

Junior Phil Lingat hit the game-winning jumper with 1.9 seconds left and the Raiders won a thriller over the crosstown Griffins to advance to Thursday's round of 16 at Toms River North.

Lingat finished with 18 points while senior Ryan West led Toms River East with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Bailey Engelhard also pitched in 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Senior Riley Collins led Donovan Catholic with a game-high 24 points and senior Kevin Singleton added 16 in the win.

(9) Freehold Twp. 75, (24) Ocean 49

Junior Steve Staklinski scored a career-high 26 points to go with five rebounds and five steals as the Patriots rolled through the Spartans and into a round-of-16 game at Ranney.

Senior John Carroll added 14 points and 12 rebounds while senior Nick Facendo chipped in seven points, six assists and three steals.

Junior Darius Brown led Ocean with 16 points.

(12) Long Branch 54, (21) Holmdel 46

Senior Anthony Velazquez scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Green Wave topped the Hornets to advance to the round of 16 Thursday against division rival Colts Neck.

Velazquez shot 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, including 8-for-8 in the final quarter to help put the game on ice for Long Branch.

Sophomore T.J. Fosque added 11 points in Long Branch's balanced offensive effort.

Sophomore Kyle Cardaci led Holmdel with 24 points, which included six three-pointers. Nick Harris and Max Phillps each added eight points in the loss.

(10) Point Beach 55, (23) Raritan 39

Senior Jimmy Panzini scored 15 points and the Garnet Gulls grounded the Rockets and advanced to the round of 16 for the fourth straight season.

Point Beach will travel to Lakewood for a rematch of last year's round-of 16 showdown, in which the Garnet Gulls knocked off the No. 2 Piners as the No. 15 seed.

Senior Alex Mrusek also scored 12 points for Point Beach and senior Mike Rice and sophomore Danny Frauenheim each added nine in the win.

Senior Joe Strand led Raritan with a game-high 21 points while senior Eddie Tynion added nine in defeat.

(7) Lakewood 78, (26) Jackson Memorial 57

Senior Amir Tyler scored 29 points and added five assists and six steals to help lead the Piners to a win over the Jaguars. Lakewood will host Point Beach Thursday in the round of 16.

Senior Sean Barksdale pitched in 21 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for Lakewood. Senior Chris Hawryluk led Jackson Memorial with 25 points.

(14) Southern 60, (19) Red Bank 58

Senior Peyton Wejnert scored 24 points and senior Ethan Dubois hit the game-winning floater with 10 seconds left as the Rams chipped away at an early deficit to beat the Bucs and advance to the round of 16 Thursday at No. 3 Manasquan. Wejnert also had seven rebounds and four steals for Southern, which fell behind, 24-16, in the first quarter.

Junior Mark Valeriani added 17 points and three steals, while Dubois contributed 10 points, five rebounds, nine assists and three steals to go with his game-winner. Sophomore Jake Dubois pitched in seven points, three assists and three steals.

Senior Matt Reardon led Red Bank with 20 points. Senior Sadiq Palmer added 12 points and senior Ben Sprauer chipped in 11 in the loss.

(8) Ranney 75, (25) Brick 51

Freshman Scottie Lewis scored 20 points to go with 16 rebounds and seven assists as the Panthers beat the Green Dragons for their first ever SCT win.

Freshman Bryan Antoine added 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Ranney while freshman Alex Klatsky chipped in 12 points in the win.

Junior Noah Buono led Brick with 11 points.

(6) Rumson-Fair Haven 88 (27) Point Boro 62

Junior Tyler Pierson scored a career-high 22 points and shot 6-for-6 from behind the three-point line as the Bulldogs routed the Panthers to advance to the round of 16 Thursday against Manchester.

Senior Brendan Barry added 15 points and six assists for Rumson, which had five players score in double-figures. Sophomores Teddy Sourlis and Jack Solano scored 11 points apiece and senior Mickey Schulter added 10. Sophomore Elijah McAllister posted 10 rebounds and eight blocks in the win.

Senior Anthony Trainor led Point Boro with 16 points and Matt VanNostrand, John Duda and Connor Costigan each scored 11 in the loss.

(5) Colts Neck 74, (28) Central 50

Senior Tom O'Reilly scored 21 points on 10-for-13 shooting and Lloyd Daniels racked up 15 points and 14 assists to lead the Cougars to a win over the Golden Eagles.

Colts Neck will host Long Branch in Thursday's round of 16, the third meeting between the Class B North rivals. The Cougars and Green Wave split the regular-season series, with Colts Neck winning the more recent meeting.

Senior Kyle Gordon added nine points and five steals for Colts Neck. Maks Gruszecki led Central with 13 points and Chris Downs and Xavier Jackson added 11 points each.

(4) Toms River North 70, (29) Henry Hudson 47

Senior Pat Marinaccio put up 23 points, 15 rebounds and six assists to lead the Mariners to a win over the Admirals. Toms River North will host rival Toms River East in the round of 16.

Junior Mike Nyisztor scored 14 points and senior Hunter Petrick poured in 12 for Toms River North.

Senior Tom DeFillippo led Henry Hudson with 23 points and Anthony LaRue added 10 in defeat.

(15) Middletown North 77, (18) St. Rose 57

Sophomore Dave Campbell and junior Marc Cerbo combined for 37 points and each scored nine during a 32-13 fourth-quarter outburst that sparked the Lions to an opening-round win over the Purple Roses. Middletown North will take on No. 2 CBA in the round of 16.

Campbell finished with a game-high 19 points and Cerbo scored 18, including 14 in the second half. Freshman Rob Higgins added 15 points and junior Matt Pinckney added 13 points off the bench.

Senior Billy Frost led St. Rose with 13 points.

(11) Manchester 76, (22) Matawan 50

Junior L.J. Robinson scored 20 points, senior Shavar Reynolds added 20 and senior Israel Almestica pulled in his 1,000th career rebound as the Hawks stormed past the Huskies and into a round-of-16 date at defending champion Rumson-Fair Haven.

Reynolds added nine assists and five steals while senior Jordan Torney chipped in 14 points for Manchester.

Senir Steve Palumbo scored 15 points to go with seven rebounds and the Rebels topped the Crimson Knights.

Sophomore Mike Revello scored 16 points to lead the Bengals to a win over the Lions.

Katie Hyde scored the game-winning layup in the final seconds and the Crimson Knights knocked off the Hawks to advance to a round-of-16 game against top-seeded St. John Vianney.
