Howell 5, Freehold 4 (9 Innings)

Senior Connor Fey hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Rebels (3-1, 3-1) won an extra-inning thriller over the Colonials (2-3, 0-3). Fey finished 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored to go with his solo blast.

Junior Justin Steel finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and senior Dan Matrisciano doubled and drove in two runs for Howell, including the game-tying sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Matt Furlong earned his first career win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief.

Freehold starter Dante Cuzzolino went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

No. 9 Marlboro 6, No. 10 Middletown South 5

Senior Phil Saglietto hit a game-ending, game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Mustangs (4-0, 3-0) rallied from an early five-run deficit to beat the Eagles (0-4, 0-3) and remain unbeaten.

Junior Brian Reilly ignited the rally with a three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Middletown South's lead to 5-4. Junior Matt Discuillo was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while sophomore Will Trochiano finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in the win.

Junior right-hander Jeremy Dyzenhaus induced a 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded to get out of the bottom of the seventh and needed only seven pitches in 2/3 of an inning to pick up the win.

Ian Schauer went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Middletown South, while Ben Porpora was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the loss. Nolan Pereless also doubled for Middletown South.

Manalapan 14, Freehold Twp. 11

The Braves (4-1, 1-1) exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a four-run deficit and held on to beat the Patriots (2-2, 1-2) for their fourth straight win.

Junior catcher Stephen Carbonara broke an 8-8 tie in the sixth with an RBI single up to center, the highlight in a 3-for-3, four-RBI game.Junior Jake Sadowitz finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI for Manalapan.

The 14-hit Manalapan attack overshadowed a career game for Freehold Township senior catcher Joe Silvestrone, who went 4-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBI. Silvestrone hit an opposite-field three-run home run in the first inning, belted a solo shot in the fourth and launched a three-run bomb in the in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring. Silvestrone also added an RBI single in the second.

 

Class A Central

Monmouth 10, Holmdel 3

Raritan 2, Shore 0

Junior Jon Rodriguez outdueled Monmouth University recruit James Kelly on the mound and also delivered the game-winning two-run single off Kelly in the top of the sixth inning to give the Rockets (3-1, 2-1) a win over the Blue Devils (2-2, 2-1). Rodriguez allowed only two hits, struck out nine and walked six.

Kelly allowed four hits and walked one while striking out 10, but also fell victim to five Shore errors.

No. 8 Manasquan 2, St. John Vianney 0 (8 Innings)

Brothers Tommy Sheehan and Jack Sheehan combined on a no-hitter over eight innings and the Warriors (1-2, 1-2) upended the Lancers (2-1, 1-1) for their first win of the season.

Sophomore Tommy Sheehan walked two and struck out nine in six innings while throwing 78 pitches. Jack Sheehan struck out three and walked one in his two innings of work to earn the win.

The Sheehans - both of whom are committed to Notre Dame - also went 1-for-3 each. Tommy Sheehan also moved out to left field and made a running catch near the left-field corner in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Senior shortstop Matt Edwards drilled a go-ahead two-run double down the left-field line in the top of the eighth after the Sheehan brothers led off the inning with back-to-back singles and moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Fay.

Lancers senior Dan Schirmacher went the distance and scattered seven hits while taking the hard-luck loss.

 

Class B North

No. 4 Colts Neck 10, Long Branch 1

Senior Tyler Kay and juniors Mike Antico and Tim Cavrak starred at the plate and Mike D'Ottavio earned his first varsity win as the Cougars (4-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten by beating the Green Wave (1-3, 1-2).

Antico went 3-for-4 with his third triple of the season to go with two runs scored, two RBI and four stolen bases. Kay went 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base, while Cavrak finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored an an RBI.

D'Ottavio allowed a run on four his and two walks while striking out three to pick up the victory. Saoine Washington and Anthony Brier each went 1-for-3 for Long Branch, with Washington driving Brier in with an RBI single.

Matawan 7, Neptune 2

Junior Adam Elliott allowed an earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven as the Huskies (2-2, 2-1) made the most of three hits in a win over the Scarlet Fliers. Brandon Rivera went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Matawan offense.

Hunter Daly and Justin Tucker each had an hit and an RBI for Neptune.

Red Bank Catholic 15, Red Bank 6

Junior Evan Madigan and sophomore Anthony DeRosa each had a double, two hits and four RBI and the Caseys (3-0, 3-0) hammered the Bucs (0-4, 0-3) to remain unbeaten. Junior Doug Facendo also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored and sophomore Aaron Ahn was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI for RBC.

Ryan Santos went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, while Nick Massa and Matt Santos were each 1-for-3 with two RBI for Red Bank.

Senior Blake Demeter struck out 10 and allowed three hits in a complete-game effort and the Spartans rolled their fifth straight win to open the season. Kenny Pickett picked up two hits and two RBI, while Jake Talarico smacked a two-run triple to lead the Ocean offense.
