No. 9 Manalapan 5, No. 10 Howell 3

Seniors Jake DiPietrantonio and Matt Panzica each delivered RBI hits in Manalapan's four-run third and the Braves rallied to beat the Rebels for their second win in as many days.

DiPietrantonio singled home the first run of the inning to cut Howell's lead to 3-2 and Manalapan took the lead when a throwing error on a sacrifice attempt by senior Ben Levine allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score. Panzica tacked on an insurance run with an RBI double.

Sophomore Antonio Gatti led off the top of the seventh with a single but winning pitcher Jake Pellecchia induced a game-ending, 5-4-3 double play.

Class A South

Toms River North 16, Brick 5 (5 Innings)

Seniors Dylan Feigin, Jonathan Giordano and Sean Aguiar each had two hits, an extra-base hit and at least one RBI to lead another double-digit-run attack by the Mariners (2-0, 2-0) in a win over the Green Dragons (0-2, 0-2).

Feigin was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, Giordano finished 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and two RBI and Aguiar went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.

Senior Sam Angelo doubled and drove in three and junior Robert Jeans doubled and drove in three for Toms River North. Jeans also earned the win, allowing three unearned runs on three runs and three walks while striking out eight over four innings of work.

Brick took an early 3-0 lead on Toms River North on an RBI single by sophomore John Wade and an RBI triple by junior Anthony Prato. Junior Rob Page also doubled in the loss.

Toms River East 15, Central 3

Junior Robert Pero went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI to lead another scoring onslaught by the Raiders (2-0, 2-0) that carried them to a win over the Golden Eagles (0-2, 0-2) for a second time in three days.

Juniors Daniel Facchiano and Mason Tampuu combined on five shutout innings of relief, with Facchiano tossing three one-hit innings and earning the win.

Senior Mark Murtha was 2-for-4 with an RBI, senior Logan Sommerer drove in two runs, and senior Tyler Toth was 1-for-1 with four runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore Joe Ussery also went 1-for-4 with three runs scored.

Sophomore Trevor Coltenback went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Central, the sophomore's second straight two-hit game to open his varsity career. Junior Daniel Greene also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and junior Mike Masino was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Senior Andrew Forrester threw 111 pitches in five innings in taking the loss. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five.

Southern 13, Brick Memorial 5

Senior Frankie Pellegrino went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI and junior Rickey Glascock tripled home three runs to break open the game in the sixth in a Rams (1-2, 1-1) win over the Mustangs (1-1, 1-1).

Senior Mike Schiatarella and sophomores Mike Gallaro each went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while sophomores Kevin Cooney and Xavier Hendricks were each 2-for-4. Cooney scored two runs and Hendricks scored one and drove in two.

Senior Cole Markley could not quite make it through seven complete before running out of pitches, but earned the win with 6 2/3 innings of work. The senior right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 112 pitchers while striking out five. Pellegrino recorded the final out.

Sophomore Max Cala and senior Greg Hanlon each went 2-for-4, with Cala driving in a run and Hanlon scoring one. Senior Graham Harrigan and Tristan Savoia each threw three innings, with Savoia taking the loss.

 

Class B Central

Henry Hudson 16, Asbury Park 8

Junior and winning pitcher Grady Hendrickson went 3-for-5 with a triple and five RBI and senior Timmy Farrell finished 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBI to help the Admirals (2-0, 2-0) double up the Blue Bishops (2-0, 2-0).

Hendrickson worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Junior Josh Winters also went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, two runs and an RBI for Henry Hudson. Senior Liam Hagan also doubled, drove in a run and scored two.

Senior Jamir Cancel went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBI to lead Asbury Park. Senior Darwin Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Lazarus Chathaunt went 1-for-3 with two RBI and junior Jansi Mendez-Garcia tripled and drove in two.

Point Beach 11, Keansburg 0 (5 Innings)

Junior Will Baranello pitched a five-inning no-hitter in his first start and the Garnet Gulls (2-0, 2-0) hammered the Titans (0-2, 0-2) for the second time this week to earn the inside track in the B Central public division championship race.

Baranello, a left-hander who moved to Point Pleasant from England for the 2018-19 school year, struck out 11 while walking four on 78 pitches.

Sophomore Matt VanBrunt went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI while sophomore Jeff Wall was 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the offense. Freshman Hunter Roselli finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and sophomore Phil Trebour was 2-of-4 with two runs and an RBI for Point Beach.

Senior Liam Riecks took the loss, throwing 58 pitches in 1 2/3 innings before giving way to junior Chris DeSantis (46 pitches) for the final 2 1/3.

Mater Dei Prep 4, Keyport 2 (8 Innings)

Junior Johnny Eckert dropped a wind-aided single into the shallow outfield to tie the game in the top of the seventh and the Seraphs plated two in the eighth to pull out a win and a series sweep over the Red Raiders.

Juniors Mike Folk and Sean Turner were each hit by a pitch, executed a double-steal and Folk scored the go-ahead run on a ground out by senior Chase Hardy. Senior Brandon Sansone hit another shallow fly that caught caught up in win and dropped for an RBI single to give Mater Dei an insurance run.

Sophomore Sean Lachky gave Keyport a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth but Turner struck him out as the tying run in the bottom of the eighth.

Senior Mike Conger struck out eight in a five-inning complete game and the Hawks (1-1, 1-0) rolled over the Piners (0-1, 0-1).

Junior Nick Chiappisi and sophomore Chris Grille each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, with Chiappisi doubling and scored two runs as well.

Sophomores Blake Warren and Ryan Costello each went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI and junior James Johns was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Senior Juadae Rosario went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Lakewood. Senior Justin Vega worked 3 2/3 innings in taking the loss.

Barnegat 9, No. 7 Point Boro 7

The Bengals scored four runs in the sixth thanks to two Point Boro errors and held on to knock off the Panthers. Junior Sean Lucas delivered a key two-out, two-run single to cut the deficit to 6-5 in the fifth and set Barnegat up for the sixth.

Junior Nick Zbikowski highlighted a five-run Point Boro fifth with a two-run single.

No. 4 Jackson Liberty 9, Donovan Catholic 3

Senior Kevin Ritz followed up a big opening day by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and also closed out the win with two innings on the mound as the Lions (2-0, 2-0) completed a two-game sweep of the Griffins (0-2, 0-2).

Ritz allowed a run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks in his two innings. The senior went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Monday's 22-0 win over Donovan Catholic in the opener.

Sophomore Daniel Keenan also contributed on the mound and at the bat. He struck out five in three scoreless innings and also went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI out of the No. 9 spot in the order.

Senior David Melfi was 1-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI and junior Brandon Kinsman also went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Shane Hickey finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Jackson Liberty.

Ryan Gallacher opened the game with two innings and allowed two runs for Jackson Liberty.

Anthony Mursko went 3-for-4 and senior Matt Morro went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Sophomore Sam Gates and senior Brandon Dupont also went 2-for-4 each, with Gates adding a double and a run scored.

Pinelands 2, Lacey 1

Freshman Rian O'Rourke broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the second inning and the Wildcats held on behind a complete-game outing from senior left-hander and Old Dominion commit Noah Dean.

Senior Pete Hammond tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI double in the first inning after Lacey jumped in front on an RBI single by senior Garrett Reilly.
