Each week during the 2022 high school baseball season, Shore Sports Network will recognize the top performers in each Shore Conference division and give fans a chance to pick the overall winner of the Shore Sports Network Baseball Player of the Week. The nominees include a Player of the Week from each of the six Shore Conference divisions, plus two wild cards who are worthy of consideration as well.

Check out this week's group of nominees and vote for the one you think stands out in the poll at the bottom of the post. Voting will carry into Friday afternoon, with the polls closing at noon. The winner will receive a Player of the Week shirt courtesy of Ocean County Sports Medicine.

Class A North Player of the Week

Joe Stanzione, Middletown South

Stanzione added two more homers to his Shore-Conference-leading total last week and the first of the two might have been his biggest of the last two years (that it’s a debate is also impressive). With a 3-0 count in a 0-0 game in the bottom of the ninth, Stanzione crushed a walk-off home run to give Middletown South a 2-0 win over Red Bank Catholic in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals.

Class A North Honorable Mention: Harrison Campi, CBA; Hunter Del Guercio, CBA; Christian Vento, Manalapan; Danny Talarico, Marlboro; Alex D’Ambrosio, Marlboro; Russell Halvorsen, Howell; Colin Dowlen, Middletown North; Ryan Kopf, Freehold Twp.; Ryan Costello, Freehold Twp.; Mike Avino, Freehold Twp.

Class A Central Player of the Week

Johnny Bruno, Rumson-Fair Haven

In a sweep of Ocean last week, Bruno went 4-for-7 with a grand slam and six RBI – another exhibition of the depth of the Rumson lineup.

Class A Central Honorable Mention: Max Woodward, Holmdel; Tim Haggerty, Holmdel; Brian Doherty, Rumson-Fair Haven; Frank Scrivanic, Red Bank Catholic; Joey Esposito, Monmouth; Jack Tiernan, St. Rose

Class A South Player of the Week

Dom Masino, Central

Masino has found his power stroke late in his junior season, with three of his four home runs coming since April 30 and two of them coming last week. The Golden Eagles shortstop homered in Ocean County Tournament wins over Point Boro and Toms River East and his two-run shot vs. Point Boro came in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Class A South Honorable Mention: Joe Scamardella, Brick; Nick Hoheb, Brick; Kevin Toye, Brick; Zach Crotchfelt, Jackson Memorial; Mike Arent, Jackson Memorial; Charlie Meglio, Jackson Memorial; Aidan O’Donnell; Aidan Gallipoli, Toms River East; Cam Leiter, Central; Brian Harper, Southern; Stephen Stafford, Southern; Nate Obeng, Toms River North; Jake Wilber, Toms River South; Chris Clark, Toms River South

Class B North Player of the Week

Jerry Winchester, Wall

Wall’s entire lineup was on fire last week and has been for a while now. Winchester had his best week of the season, going 5-for-10 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI. The two doubles and four of the RBI came in a division win over Red Bank and both homers came in another division rout of Red Bank. He also went 1-for-3 with a run scored in a win over Marlboro in the Monmouth County Tournament semifinals.

Class B North Honorable Mention: Brett Patten, Manasquan; James Cosgrove, Manasquan; Andrew Fischer, Wall; Jake Howlett, Wall; Antonio Kurtz, St. John Vianney; Andrew Zottar, St. John Vianney; Matteo Pasculli, St. John Vianney; Ryan Cole, Neptune; Dan Moran, Neptune; Brennan Moloughney, Neptune; Joey Bodin, Matawan; Jake Brigandi, Matawan; Sean Hart, Matawan; Jake Cohen, Red Bank; Ryan Tan, Colts Neck; Dave Cohen, Colts Neck; Joe Cilea, Colts Neck

Class B Central Player of the Week

Phil Trebour, Point Beach

The Garnet Gulls shortstop hit .533 in four games last week, including a combined 4-for-8 with a double against Brick Memorial in the Ocean County Tournament and Colts Neck in the Shore Conference Tournament.

Class B Central Honorable Mention: Andrew Banick, Point Beach; Kyle Kolans, Point Beach; Diego Tavarez, Ranney

Class B South Player of the Week

Rian O’Rourke, Pinelands

O’Rourke has carried the Pinelands offense throughout the season, hitting just about every caliber of opposing pitching. The senior went 6-for-13 last week with three doubles and a triple while driving in four runs in helping the Wildcats claim a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament.

Class B South Honorable Mention: P.J. Craig, Barnegat; Joe Maier, Donovan Catholic; Gavin Degnan, Donovan Catholic; Mike Damato, Manchester; Andrew Tobia, Lacey; Connor Cilento, Point Boro; Ryan Acquisto, Point Boro

Wild Cards

Ryan Costello, Freehold Twp.

Three players hit game-winning, walk-off homers in tournament games last week and while Stanzione and Masino did it in county tournament wins, Costello brought some walk-off magic to the Shore Conference Tournament. The Patriots sophomore crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to give Freehold Township a 7-6 win over Toms River South and also earned the win on the mound.

Mike Arent, Jackson Memorial

Arent has been in an out of the starting lineup and got back in last week and did not miss his chance to make a statement. The junior centerfielder crushed homers in back-to-back games against Southern and Freehold Township and started off this week by adding to his homer streak with a grand slam against Pinelands.
