First Round

(5) Rumson-Fair Haven 6, (21) Marlboro 0

Junior Morgan Maguire pitched a one-hitter and the Bulldogs blanked the Mustangs to advance to the Monmouth County Tournament quarterfinals against No. 13 Freehold Township. Maguire struck out eight and also added one hit with two runs scored at the plate.

Chris Jewitt delivered a key two-run single in the fourth and Kenny Ferrari hit a three-run double in the sixth to cap the scoring.

 

Class A North

Manalapan 16, Middletown North 6 (6 Innings)

Junior Will Meany hit a grand slam in a seven-run first inning and later added a three-run double to cap a seven-RBI game as the Braves beat the Lions. Meany, Dan Russo, John Diana and Ryan McGrane each had two hits and Russo, McGrane and Chris Rodriguez each drove in two runs.

Ryan Tsang pitched three scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Middletown North cut the Manalapan lead to 9-6 with a five-run fourth inning, led by RBI hits by Kyle Capo and Frank Dente, the latter of whom doubled in a run.

 

Class A South

Toms River North 9, Southern 4

Doug Molnar pitched a complete-game, five-hitter and Jeff Ciervo went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Mariners to a win over the Rams. Ciervo knocked in two runs with a single during Toms River North's seven-run third inning.

Nick Sinopoli went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Chris Starner ripped a two-run double in the first inning.

Toms River South 2, Brick 2 (5 Innings)

The Indians and Green Dragons stopped play in the top of the sixth inning, resulting in a tie for the time being. The Shore Conference and the two teams could elect to replay the game from the beginning at a later date.

No. 1 Jackson Memorial 5, No. 3 Toms River East 5 (5 Innings)

The Jaguars and Raiders stopped play after the bottom of the fifth inning, resulting in a tie for the time being. The Shore Conference and the two teams could elect to replay the game from the beginning at a later date.

Charlie Mulé hit a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game and ensure that the Raiders would not lose a rain-shortened game. Toms River East overcame a 5-0 deficit and four first-inning errors that led to three Jackson Memorial runs.

Joe DeMaio doubled home a run for Jackson Memorial.

Brick Memorial 5, Lacey 4 (9 Innings)

Tyler Hobbs scored on a ninth-inning error to end the game and give the Mustangs an extra-inning win over the Lions, who fell to 1-6 in one-run games. Joe Trafficante allowed one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.

Brian Markoski and Nick Matteo each went 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Brick Memorial, with Matteo also scoring a run and driving one in. Kyle Cala also went 1-for-1 with two RBI in the win.

 

Class B Central

Mater Dei Prep 4, Keansburg 2

Anthony Stanziale pitched a complete game and Sam Miles and Matt Eckert each delivered at the plate to lead the Seraphs to a win over the Titans. Stanziale allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts to pick up the win.

Miles finished 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Eckert was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Mike Politano went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for Keansburg.

Point Beach 11, Ranney 4 (5 Innings)

Jeff Deufel pitched a five-inning complete game and Geno Antagnoli drove in two runs as the Garnet Gulls beat the Panthers in a rain-shortened game. Deufel allowed one earned on two hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

St. Rose 11, Asbury Park 0 (5 Innings)

Junior Pat Fullman threw a five-inning no-hitter and the Purple Roses took care of the Blue Bishops. Fullman struck out nine and walked four in the no-hit victory, while Johnny Kussmaul went 1-for-3 with two RBI and J.P. Traynor was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate.

Keyport 8, Henry Hudson 3

Eric Chandler went the distance on the mound and Ryan Leary went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the Red Raiders to a win over the Admirals. Chandler allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out eight.

Chandler and Anthony Fernandez each went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Fernandez scoring a run and Chandler driving one in. Kyle Mitchell also doubled and drove in two runs.

 

Class B South

Manchester at Point Boro - PPD, TBD

No. 7 Barnegat 1, No. 8 Jackson Liberty 0 (5 Innings)

Sophomore left-hander Jason Groome allowed just two baserunners - one by hit and one on a hit-by-pitch - and struck out nine to pitch the Bengals past the Lions in a rain-shortened game, ending Jackson Liberty's eight-game winning streak.

Jackson Liberty starter Dan Serreino also allowed only one hit, but an unearned run in the top of the third doomed the right-hander and the Lions.

Central at Lakewood, 3:45 p.m.
