Junior Tom Holdorf threw a no-hitter and the Colonials topped the Red Raiders to advance to the MCT round of 16 and also give coach Jon Block his 300th career win. Freehold will play at No. 8 Shore in the round of 16 on April 29.

Senior Mike Carannante drove home the winning run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and the Hornets knocked off the Braves in the MCT opening round. Manalapan rallied to tie the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Junior Gene Casazza earned his first varsity win by escaping the bottom of the sixth inning with the game tied at eight and junior Chris Ammirati worked a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Brandan Haggerty and Jorden Jurkiewicz each went 4-for-5 and the Lions rolled to a win over the Patriots. Haggerty homered, scored three runs and drove in two, while Jurkiewicz drove in three and scored two.

Luke Bivona went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored and Don Zellman was also 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jake Capatasto threw 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first win of the season.

Nick Hohenstein and Kenny Campbell each had run-scoring hits in a three-run fifth for CBA and Luca Dalatri tacked on a sacrifice fly in the sixth that proved to be the game-winning run as the Colts held off the Mariners for their eighth straight win and 21st straight win against N.J. competition. Campbell's hit in the fifth was a two-run single.

Senior Trevor Wagner singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Indians to a win over the Griffins. Senior Tyler Wisnewski had a key double in the inning and scored on Wagner's single after Justin Fall tied the game with an RBI ground out.

Junior Matt Yard fired a five-hit complete game to outduel Notre Dame recruit Jack Sheehan as the Crimson Knights edged the Warriors. Yard allowed one earned run, struck out five and did not issue a walk.

Sheehan lasted five innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks while punching out six.

Regan Dombroski plated the two Wall runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave the Crimson Knights a 2-1 lead.

Junior Tommy Sheehan went 2-for-3 and scored the lone Manasquan run.

 

At Count Basie Park, Red Bank

No. 9 Brick Memorial 1, Red Bank 0 (8 Innings)

Brian Markoski drove in the winning run in the eighth with a chopper to first base and Dave Clark worked 7 2/3 strong to earn the win as the Mustangs topped the Bucs.

Clark struck out eight and allowed five hits before giving way to Nick Stephan, who recorded the final out for his third save.

Nick Massa went the distance for Red Bank, allowing just four hits while striking out eight.

Starting pitcher Jared Kacso hit a go-ahead RBI double down the left-field line with two out in the top of the seventh to score pinch-runner Bryan Benzinger from first base and junior Aaron McLaughlin worked a one-two-three seventh to help the Bengals knock off the Caseys - the previously-unbeaten, No. 2 team at the Shore.

Kacso's RBI double made him a winner on the mound as well after the senior right-hander pitched six innings while allowing three runs on six hits with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts. McLaughlin relieved Kacso - who had thrown 104 pitches - and issued a leadoff walk before inducing a four-six-three double-play for the first two outs of the inning off the bat of Aaron Ahn. Ahn was the hero in RBC's win over Wall Thursday when he hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Caseys a 4-3 win.

The Bengals handed Red Bank Catholic senior right-hander John Poccia his first loss and also became the first team to score a run against the Caseys ace. Poccia opened his season with 20 1/3 scoreless innings before finally conceding a run.

 

At Jackson Liberty

Jackson Liberty 6, No. 7 Jackson Memorial 3

Kenny Pommerencke and Billy Hart each drove in a pair of runs with a two-run single and Mike Zak scattered eight hits while going the distance on the mound as the Lions handed the rival Jaguars their first loss of the season.

Hart singled home the first two of Jackson Liberty's three runs in the bottom of the first inning and Pommerencke added a two-run single in the fifth to give Jackson Liberty a 5-2 lead.

Pommerncke finished 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI while Hart was 1-for-4. Kyle Tavaska went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while freshmen David Melfi and Daniel Sofield each went 2-for-3.

Kyle Lona went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead Jackson Memorial.

Logan Marter drove in a pair of runs and Zack Richards went 2-for-4 in support of winning pitcher Ryan DeMille as the Lancers topped the Falcons. Richards scored a run and drove one in, while Marter finished 1-for-2 and also scored a run.

DeMille allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven in six innings of work.

Garhett Reedy hit a two-run home run and Paul Pirzin also drove in two to lead Monmouth.

Troy Miller cracked a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the fifth and Howell scored the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a win over the Hawks. Donovan O'Malley went the distance to earn the win on the mound.

Grant Hackett was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Mark Iacobino was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Eddie Morales also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Steven Rodriguez and Ryan Vanderham each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Manchester, with Rodriguez also doubling and scoring two runs.

No. 4 Middletown South 9, Southern 2

Ryan Ruziecki went 2-for-3 with four RBI and Johnny Zega was 3-for-4 with two scored and two driven in to lead the Eagles to a win over the Rams. Ian Scheuer and Tom Gannon each went 2-for-3 for Middletown South, while Zach Schild and Ben Porpora each went 1-for 3 with Schild scoring two runs and Porpora scoring three.

Scheuer allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings to earn the win and also struck out nine.

Senior left-hander Carlos Pacheco threw a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and the Green Wave beat the Blue Bishops. The no-hitter was the second thrown by a Shore Conference player on Saturday and seventh official no-hitter thrown by a Shore Conference team.

 

At Point Pleasant Boro

Point Boro 5, Manalapan 4

Senior Mike Falconetti ripped a two-out, game-winning, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Panthers and win over the Braves and improve their season-opening winning streak to six. Falconetti also pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win.

The walk-off hit was the second in the last three games for Falconetti, who belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday to beat Jackson Liberty, 3-2.

Falconetti's RBI single capped a three-run seventh by the Panthers, which began with a double by Sam Monaco with one out. Bill Feehan followed with an infield single and after an error loaded the bases, each runner moved up on a sacrifice fly by Sebastian Severio, with Monaco scoring. Feehan then scored the tying run on error and Falconetti followed with his winning hit to left field.

Sam Monaco scored two runs and drove one in, while Bill Feehan was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Frank Graziano also drove in a run for Point Boro. Starter Josiah Gliddon lasted 4 1/3 innings, during which he allowed three earned runs and struck out six.

Max Winters, Stephen Carbonara and Stephen Hansen each went 2-for-4 for Manalapan, with Carbonara adding a double and three RBI. Hansen also knocked in a run, while Jake Sadowitz finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Chris Rodriguez also tripled, but was stranded at third to end the third inning.

Point Beach 6, Lakewood 5

John Nista, Joe DelGrippo and John VanSchoick each went 2-for-3 and the Garnet Gulls held off the Piners. Nista also doubled and drove in three, VanSchoick drove in one and DelGrippo scored two runs.

Kevin Donnelly went the distance on the mound for Point Beach to earn the win.

Julian Zingler went 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Aurelio Mendez, Jason Holguin and Tayon Conover-Hart all went 2-for-4 for Lakewood. Mendez also drove in a run and fell victim to five unearned runs in his six innings of work on the mound. Holguin also doubled for the Piners.

Will Trochiano and Gene Napolitano each went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead the offensive charge in a Mustangs win over Hudson Catholic. Trochiano also tripled and scored four runs.

Andrew Gambardella also went 3-for-3 with a run scored and Justin Kapuscinski was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Matt DiSciullo also added a triple for Marlboro.

Jeremy Dyzenhaus threw four scoreless innings of three-hit ball to pick up his third win of the season. Justin Kaplan followed by striking out the side in order in the fifth.
