Red Bank Catholic junior first baseman Anthony DeRosa announced via Twitter Thursday a non-binding verbal commitment to play baseball at Rutgers University, joining Freehold Township junior Mike Pirrotta as Shore Conference NCAA  Division I commits this week. Pirotta announced his verbal commitment to Wagner College on Saturday.

DeRosa broke out as a sophomore in 2015, batting .438 with six doubles, a home run and four triples, which tied for third in the Shore Conference. He was a Shore Sports Network Third Team All-Shore selection for the Shore Conference Tournament runners up, one of only two sophomores on the three teams along with teammate Aaron Ahn.

Ahn commited to Navy prior to the 2015 season, giving RBC two Division I commitments from the Class of 2017. Senior shortstop Evan Madigan (Bucknell) and right-hander Jack Ipsen (Bryant) are both 2016 commits for the Caseys.

Pirrotta also had a standout sophomore season for the Patriots, particularly on the mound. The 6-foot-5 right-hander pitched to a 4-1 record and 2.84 earned-run average while striking out 27 in 44 1/3 innings. He also cracked three doubles and a home run in 57 at-bats this past season for Freehold Township.
