Coming off a disappointing junior season at Fordham in 2015, Manalapan native Joe Serrapica set out to work through his struggles before his senior season and began the process in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League during the summer of that same year.

Serrapica made the ABCCL All-Star Game last year, caught the eyes of the handful scouts on hand to watch the game with a low-90's fastball that topped out at 96 during the college season, and propelled himself into his best season this past spring. On the heels of his senior year - a year after embarking on that 2015 ABCCL season - Serrapica was a 24th-round draft selection of the Tampa Bay Rays and is now pitching professionally in the Rays system.

For most players on the 2016 ABCCL Captain Ryan K. Ianelli All-Star Rosters, some summer work and a chance to improve for their upcoming college season is enough, but Serrapico is an example of what it looks like when a player puts it all together. Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park, this year's group of all-stars will put their skills on display, with a number of those players hailing from the Shore area.

A wealth of Shore products are having quality summer seasons in the ABCCL and most of those will be on either the Larry Doby or Yogi Berra All-Star Teams. The Berra All-Stars feature a pair of St. John Vianney alumni in sluggers Joe Rotelli and Anthony Santoro who helped lead the Lancers to the NJSIAA Non-Public A championship and No. 1 overall state ranking. Red Bank Catholic alum Joe Iacobellis and St. Rose alum Andrew Aikins are also on the Berra roster, while fellow St. Rose alum Jimmy Gowen was named to the team but will not be available to pitch.

Twice as many Shore players will be on the Doby roster Thursday night, highlighted by eight hitters: Mike Miraglia (Toms River North), Aaron Kane (Manchester), Ty Hawkins (Manasquan), Conor Gammond (St. Rose), Nick Panissidi (Donovan Catholic), Steve Santigate (Marlboro), Ryan Shiffer (Toms River South) and Jason Lundy (Freehold Boro). Wall alumni Bobby Patterson is one of the two Shore natives on the roster as pitchers, with Manalapan alum Ajay Kawa also getting the nod for Team Doby.
