Last-second heroics by Neptune's own Keith Kirkwood and a Player of the Week honor for Lakewood's Tyrice Beverette highlighted another banner weekend for former Shore football stars at the higher levels.

---Shilique Calhoun (Middletown North) had 3 tackles as the Raiders fell 26-10 to the Chiefs.

---The Philadelphia Eagles lost their second straight, 27-20 to the Redskins. Defensive end Vinny Curry (Neptune) had 3 tackles and was in on a tackle for a loss.

---Tight end Neal Sterling (Manasquan/Monmouth Univ.) did not register a catch, but the Jaguars came back to pick up a 17-16 win over the Bears.

---Long-snapper Clark Harris (Southern/Rutgers) and the Bengals lost 35-17 to the Patriots.

COLLEGE

---Wide receiver Keith Kirkwood (Neptune) had the game-winning, 8-yard touchdown catch with one second left in regulation to give Temple a heart-stopping 26-25 win over Central Florida. Kirkwood finished  with 2 catches for 19 yards, and linebacker Chapelle Russell (Lakewood) added a tackle in the win.

---Defensive back Ikie Calderon (Neptune) had 4 tackles in Eastern Michigan's 27-20 win over Ohio that moved them to 5-2.

---Freshman wide receiver Sadiq Palmer (Red Bank) had 3 catches for 17 yards and a 13-yard run for UMass in a 56-28 loss to Louisiana Tech. Kicker Mike Caggiano (Manalapan) went 4-for-4 on extra points in the loss.

---Wide receiver Tim Vangelas (Colts Neck) had 2 catches for 18 yards in Lafayette's 62-7 loss to Army.

---Defensive back Otis Kearney (Toms River South) saw time but did not register a tackle in Central Michigan's 34-28 win over Northern Illinois in triple overtime.

---Starting offensive lineman Quenton Nelson (Red Bank Catholic) and Notre Dame fell 17-10 to Stanford.

---One week after teammate Jaheem Woods (Neptune) received the honor, Stony Brook junior defensive back Tyrice Beverette (Lakewood) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week with a team-high 11 tackles, 4 for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble in a 14-3 win over Rhode Island. (As you can see by the photo below, Beverette is an NFL-sized tank in the secondary). Woods added 4 tackles and a pass break-up in the win. Defensive lineman Monte Sinisi (Manasquan) had 5 tackles for Rhode Island in the loss.

---Safety Mike Basile (Brick Memorial) had a team-high 13 tackles, including one for a loss, defensive lineman Dimitrius Smith (Jackson Memorial) had 3 tackles, including one for a loss and half a sack, and defensive lineman Manny Maragoto (Freehold Twp.) had 2 sacks and a pass break-up in Monmouth University's 17-13 loss to Presbyterian. Matt Castronuova (Jackson Memorial) and Adam Kakar (Toms River North) each added a tackle, and Vinny Grasso (Donovan Catholic) had 2 punt returns for 15 yards.

---Wide receiver Ishmael Hyman (St. John Vianney) had one catch for five yards in James Madison's 42-39 win over New Hampshire. Tight end Jordan Powell (Lacey) had a big game in the loss for New Hampshire with 9 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.

---Defensive end Shawn McCord (Red Bank Catholic) had 3 tackles, including 2 for a loss of 9 yards, to help St. Francis (Pa.) roll past Bryant with a 38-3 win.

---Defensive back Darrius Hart (Toms River South) had 10 tackles, an interception and a pass break-up to help Maine pick up a 20-16 win over Albany on homecoming.

---Wide receiver Robbie Cantelli (Holmdel) had a strong day with 3 catches for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns in Fordham's wild 44-37 win over Yale. Wideout Isaiah Searight (Monmouth) added one catch for 5 yards for the Rams, and linebacker Brett Lambert (Holmdel) had 2 tackles. Defensive lineman Kyle Mullen (Manalapan) had 6 tackles in the loss for Yale.

---Quarterback Alex Thomson (Keyport) finished 19-for-28 for 270 yards, a touchdown and an interception and defensive back Jesse Flaherty (Red Bank Catholic) had a team-high 9 tackles and an interception to lead Wagner's 25-21 comeback win over Central Connecticut State. Wideout Joey Fields (Donovan Catholic) had a strong game in defeat for CCSU, finishing with 4 catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.

---Quarterback Matt Muh (Shore Regional) was 7-for-17 for 50 yards and an interception, running back Chad Freshnock (Middletown North) had 8 carries for 14 yards and defensive end Doug Whitlock (Red Bank Catholic) had a tackle in Bucknell's 27-7 loss to Colgate.

---Tight end Anthony Firkser (Manalapan) had 6 catches for 72 yards in Harvard's 27-17 loss to Holy Cross.

---Nick Tomkins (Matawan) had 4 tackles for Dartmouth in a 20-17 win over Towson.

---Defensive back Shawn Ramcheran (Matawan) had a tackle for Sacred Heart in a 31-24 win over Cornell.

---Running back Charlie Volker (Rumson-FH) had 15 carries for 32 yards behind a line that includes Reily Radosevich (Manalapan) as Princeton put up over 300 yards of offense in a 31-7 win over Brown.

---Quarterback Steve Cluley (Wall) was 24-for-31 for 204 yards passing to help William & Mary pick up a 24-17 win over Delaware.

---Running back Matt Gudzak (Toms River East) had 6 carries for 34 yards and a 17-yard catch and Ryan Morris (Barnegat) saw time at tight end in Villanova's 23-0 loss to Richmond in a showdown off Top-15 FCS teams.

---Defensive lineman Richie Curran (Red Bank Catholic) had 2 tackles for St. Anselm in a 39-14 loss to Assumption.

---Wideout Kyle Morris (Barnegat) had one catch for 8 yards in a 45-10 win by Johns Hopkins, which is ranked in the Top 10 in Division III, over Dickinson

---Quarterback Riley Sullivan (Raritan) was 0-for-3 passing and ran for 21 yards, running back Khani Glover (Jackson Memorial) had 7 carries for 18 yards and a 31-yard catch, linebacker James Bedell (Shore Regional) had 2 tackles, Matt Gliddon (Pt. Boro) started at left guard and Erik Graham (Shore Regional) started at defensive tackle for The College of New Jersey in a 34-7 loss to Frostburg State.

---Defensive lineman Robert Planter (Manchester) and defensive back Tommy Leech (Brick) each had 5 tackles and freshman Anthony Tardogno (Manalapan) made his first collegiate start at center in Pace's 35-21 loss to Merrimack.

---Linebacker David Gutzmore (Neptune) had 7 tackles for Seton Hill in a 34-12 loss to Gannon.

---Defensive lineman Brad Greenway (Jackson Memorial) had 2 tackles to help Bentley pick up a win over American International by the bizarre score of 5-3. Running back Dahmiere Willis (Long Branch) had 9 carries for 15 yards in the loss for AIU.

---Running back Danny Tighe (Pt. Beach) had 5 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown and Rich Kuhn (Brick Memorial) had a tackle as Albright routed FDU-Florham 59-7. In the loss for FDU, Liam Casey (St. John Vianney) had 6 tackles and kicker Nick Maciejewski (Wall) had an extra point.

---Tory Robinson (Howell) had 3 catches for 35 yards in Wesley's 48-17 win over Kean University. Freshman wideout Jordan Smith (Raritan) had 4 catches for 54 yards, Steve Ferlisi (Brick) averaged 36.6 yards on five punts, Robinson's old Howell teammate, Dave Jimerson, had 11 tackles, linebacker Marquis Oliver (Lakewood) had 4 tackles, and defensive back Austin Davis (Matawan) had 2 tackles in the loss for Kean.

---Linebacker Chris Noesges (Manalapan) had 5 tackles in Rowan's 17-7 win over Southern Virginia.

---Defensive back Pat Moran (Barnegat) had 7 tackles for William Paterson in a 77-19 loss to Salisbury.

---Montclair State running back John DiStefano (Red Bank Catholic) continued his brilliant season with 135 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries and wideout Julanee Prince (St. John Vianney) had 2 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown in a 28-21 overtime loss to Christopher Newport. Defensive lineman Jake Weber (Matawan) had 7 tackles, 3 for a loss, and a sack, and Nick Volpe (Colts Neck) added 4 tackles, including 2 for a loss for Montclair.

---Running back Nick Cella (Red Bank Catholic) had 11 carries for 56 yards in Rensselaer's 16-13 loss to Merchant Marine.

---Drew Scott (Brick) had a team-high 8 tackles and Matt Cathey (Brick Memorial) added a tackle in McDaniel's 25-7 loss to Franklin & Marshall.

---Sophomore running back Matt Pine (Freehold Twp.) had 6 carries for 11 yards, linebacker Jack Fitzsimmons (Pt. Boro) had 4 tackles, and Nate Corvil (Freehold Twp.) had a pair of tackles to help Muhlenberg to a 43-7 win over Gettysburg. Linebacker Frank Olmo (Red Bank Catholic) had 8 tackles and defensive back Jake Fioretti (Pt. Beach) added 5 tackles in the loss for Gettysburg.

---Linebacker Dan Loizos (Ocean) had 11 tackles and combined on a sack and fellow linebacker Ken Bradley (Jackson Memorial) had 10 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, and a sack in Ithaca's 42-28 loss to Brockport.

---Defensive lineman Nick Pydeski (Raritan) had 3 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, in Springfield's 70-47 win over Rochester.

---Running back Mike Cordova (Red Bank Catholic) had 7 carries for 11 yards in Stonehill's 21-17 win over New Haven. In the loss, quarterback Ajee Patterson (Neptune) went 20-for-33 for 267 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

---Defensive lineman Chris Kimbiz (Brick) had a tackle in Kutztown's 49-30 win over East Stroudsburg. Joe Odebode (Toms River South) had a tackle in the loss.
